Is there a cable bury attachment?

I don't need anything major the cable only has to be a few inches in the ground (ethernet cable). I've seen some hand made jobs but does anyone sell such a thing?

A friend of mine owns a irrigation company, he has pulled wire and conduit for me with his Ditch Witch.

get a single tine ripper , weld a piece of steel pipe along the back , slip the wire thru the pipe .

Or buy a vermeer lm42 , or a ditch witch 410

The 3-pt attachment you want is called a single tine ripper or Subsoiler. The accessory linked above attaches to the Subsoiler for feeding wire or plastic tubing into the cut as you go. You'll also need some type of spool/reel holder. When it's all said and done, it may be cheaper to rent a Ditch Witch if this is a one-time use.

Buy a large diameter PVC pipe or conduit 90 degree elbow and wire it to your subsoiler. 5 or 6 dollars.

There are quite a few threads on these, with some great pics and ideas on homemade ones. Mine was just a simple ripper shank and a piece of 1" pvc conduit.

Whatever you use, I would add a gage wheel to prevent it from going too deep. Yo don't want to snag buried fiber optic or ???

Personally I just got a 3pt trencher. 3' deep & 6" wide. Got a killer deal on it & have several projects for it myself & so do a few friends. Will likely get sold after that. I know a lot of others put basically an elbow on the back of a subsoiler & use that, basically the same thing as the agri-supply link earlier.

Be very careful about burying Ethernet. You can get ground loop issues between different buildings. Commercially people never run copper, they only run fiber between buildings because of this. I did run conduit & put Ethernet in it out to my chicken coop & up to my shop when we did a different trenching project. I'm a huge believer in putting in conduit rather than wire of any sort. That way you can replace, repair or upgrade it as needed without having to trench again. Some areas have huge issues with critters eating small cable that gets buried.

I built one from scrap and dragged in irrigation pipe. It was cheap to do. I then pulled Cat 5 into the pipe. I would caution you on this though, I lost equipment twice from local lightning strikes. They didn't need to be real close to fry my network gear. I replaced the copper with fiber and a transceiver at each end, cost maybe $100 but no more lost equipment.

Much depends on soil type. I have a Steiner Trencher which is all but useless around here in the rocky soil. And to me, any sub soil device isn't much good unless it vibrates like the cable plows do. Quite impressive to watch.

The attachments I have seen pull HDPE pipe with no joints on a big spool. Cat 5/6 can be damaged with just pulling by hand. Hopefully you go with the suggestions above and don't try to pull just wire....good luck!

At the least make sure you get direct bury rated Ethernet, even if you put it in conduit. Normal indoor rated Ethernet can have a porous jackets. And conduits will get wet due to condensation if not leaks. Same goes for fiber, although it's intrinsically less susceptible to moisture than copper.

Has anyone fabricated extra weight for their single tyne ripper for burying pipe? I need mine to go deeper than it seems to want to. I thought about welding arms on to pick up the ballast box. 400lb of weight should help it somewhat.

Your top link does that by adjusting that by shortening or lengthening the link.

Longer for deeper? It went deeper when i used it last when i put 100lb of balast on it but i had to stand.on it as well to get some decent depth

That's about what I'm planning on doing. I've about a 300 foot run so I might be pushing the limit of cat6.

The design of the ripper shank on mine pulled itself as deep as the 3PH would allow-no extra weight needed. I pulled in a 12/2 and a 6pr BSW (buried service wire used for telecom and other low voltage)

ethernet signaling by definition is galvanically isolated -- there is no metallic path between the two endpoints when using typical unshielded twisted pair cabling (e.g., "CAT5" or "CAT6" UTP).
