I have a good friend that is looking for a SIMPLE and SECURE way to "tie" a small BMW down on his car trailer that is pulled behind his motor home. He is specifically looking for a very secure system that would allow him to drive it on the trailer and quickly have it locked down on the trailer where it can't move. He is unable to climb under it, or all around to tie the car down so the "normal" ratchet strap system is not the best. I was thinking of the something that when you drive on there is a stop up front then bars that lock the rim down or something. With the car being SO low and him having a bad back he really wants something simple and is wanting to make sure the car can never come lose and hurt someone.
Any ideas or products you can suggest?
Thanks

He can use these wheel straps or if his wheels have slots pass an axle strap thru then chain the strap. I've used the axle straps passed thru the wheel slots to secure a low slung car to my trailer.
Wheel Nets, Car Tie Downs, Tow Dolly Straps & Car Trailer Straps

If he can reach underneath he can get 4 hooks for the lower control arms and chain them to the trailer. I also have a set of J hooks and cluster hooks that fit in the frame slots on cars.
Towing Accessories: Tow Hooks, Cable Pullers & Tow Chains

I haven't seen what you described with a locking bar.

Thanks - they are good ideas. I am looking for a bunch of ideas just like that so I can share them with him so he can decide what works the best in his case.
I never saw any locking bar system either but it seems like there has to be something - they make something similar for ATV's and that is what prompted my thought....

If the wheels are opens he could go through them with axle straps.

Locking bar would take more clearance than he has. I would say go with wheel nets using nets and ratchets that have clips on the end, then mount a pair of D rings in front of and behind each tire.
Then he drives on, flips the wheel nets over the wheels, tightens the straps and drives off into the sunset.

Wheel nets or straps through the wheels are by far the best options.

Here is a video showing someone using a wheel basket with a clip type ratchet strap and a chain type ratchet:

He needs to learn how to use a stake pocket and a chain!

Watch to the end of the video, at the end he shows using a ratchet that has a chain going through the front stake pocket.

Yes, but hooking the hook back to the chain is asking for trouble. He should drop the chain through then put the hook on the top of the stake pocket.

He used a locking grab hook. Probably like this. It may be safer than the hook on the pocket method.

I have been using wheel straps for 15 years. They work great on low cars and really hold the car securely allowing the car to ride on it's own suspension. My late brother rose up the ranks (driver to load make-up to safety/training manager) of a company that delivers new cars to dealers, they probably had 700 semis. He supplied me with my first wheel straps, the ones that they used for high end sports cars. For his personal trailer he had one custom made using tie down chains from one of their trailers with the ratchet winder built into the deck like the big boys. He could load or unload his 340 Dart at the dragstrip in about 1 minute.
