Good morning. We escaped another frost, although it is definitely time to get back into the habit of lighting the fire in the esse each morning. It is now twenty minutes after first firing and the esse is ready to swallow a few bigger pieces of timber.

Standing for a few minutes in front of a hot range cooker is one of the greatest pleasures of the colder months.

What do you look forward to when the weather turns cold ?

Hawkeye, I thought before you had an ideal job when you could work a few days from home, sorry to hear it's now gone downhill. Hope that you and PJ can find something else that is more enjoyable.

59 and foggy. Should be our super warm day, hitting 81.

Went bow hunting down near the NC line in southern Virginia yesterday. Had a small buck eating acorns under my tree stand for 30 minutes...so interesting to watch. Squirrels climbed up to my platform at least a dozen times. I think I was standing on their perch, based on all the acorn pieces there...also many raccoon and bobcat scat. Mosquitos were terrible later in the morning once it warmed up. Peanut harvest is over, and now they are baling the peanut straw...

Hunting...Mother nature critters indeed can be most interesting to watch and learn from,I find myself reaching for camcorder before the rifle etc. more so now.

Back to drinking coffee. 51° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 59° with some sun in afternoon. .48" of rain. Doctor visit went well. But broke a tooth cap at dinner time. Visit to Dentist this afternoon. Got most of the summer ornaments put up. Hope to get that completed today.
Eric, going to a warm place is what I do when it's cold. Like to drink warmed apple cider to warm up.
Txdon, I may have spoke too soon. I may have already given phone away to a cousin. But still looking. It is an AT&T if I find it. I can update to latest software if it is old.
Good Morning All.

The old better to ask for forgiveness than permission plan - think we all know why you made the Montana job last a little longer :)

BUSTED! Dear Wife has been home for three days and I hadn't heard anything about the Ford 2N sitting behind the house.
Yesterday she got one of those video calls from the almost three year old granddaughter that stayed with us this year for the summer.
Little one insists that I must be there and makes Wife carry phone from room to room and out to my shop looking for me.
Then she asks her Nanny, "Why is Poppy's tractor dirty and grey?"
Then I get the text message explaining all that has went on for the day.
And at the end of the text message?
From dear wife...
"Yeah Poppy, WHY is there a dirty gray tractor sitting behind the house?"

I hate technology.

Gotta go. Looking for a late night flower delivery store in SE Oklahoma.

Think you need to be looking for a Early Morning Delivery Store. This may be a time when Internet is your friend. :D

Good morning! 72˚ heading to the 80s partly cloudy.

Drew I have the 2014 Subaru Forester and it burns 1/2 quart of synthetic oil every 6K miles, The dealer says that is normal. The all wheel drive is a real comfort out here.

We have the 2014 Crosstrek. Wife swears it's the best one she's driven. We will trade it in next year only to get one with all the bells and whistles as this one didn't but it's been a great car. Wished she'd quit hitting deer with it though.

Trying to decide if to use which explanation.

Oh that's an investment. Gonna clean it up and sell it.
Or...
Oh, that thing's been here for months. You must have missed it. Better pay better attention dear.

Once I use it, have to stick with it.

Eric, putting wood in a kitchen stove is something most of us have never done, now my grandparents, yes.
In a large kitchen where the stove is a heater all by itself, how nice.
Folks tend to congregate in large kitchens anyway.

a comfortable chair by the hearth; what we all want at the end of a long day.
Actually, I'd like to start off with it and run it all day but when I light the little fireplace in my kitchen
it gets to be about 90 in there in half an hour. I guess running a wood stove with the windows open is ok...

Makes sense in England because I bet they have water kettles on for the cup of tea, where most of us head for
the coffeemaker. Also nice way to add humidity in a dry winter though I always associate England with being damp to begin with.

Go with the investment story. Don't insult her powers of observation.

Good morning! Warmer outside than inside this morning at 73˚ - a/c was set at 72˚. Chance of rain increases toward evening.

I still remember about 50 years ago when my Dad wired my grand parents house when they switched from a wood to an electric oven. But they never did get an inside restroom. They had an outhouse with a good supply of solider larva that I dropped bombs on. In those days bombs were poo. I know, I know, more information than you need to know early in the morning . . .

What do you look forward to when the weather turns cold ?

With the drop in temperatures and the coming of the rain, it's once again safe and comfortable to light the fire pit and have a campfire. Like you, Eric, I love the feel of radiant heat, and also like firing off the wood stove, which I've been enjoying again for the past week or so.

Mosquitos were terrible later in the morning once it warmed up.

They've been bad out here, too, but it has been raining. Then I remembered all the pools that formed on top of the tarped wood pile. At first I was going to try to drain them, then I figured the weight would help keep the tarp in place. But those pools are full of mosquito larvae, so yesterday I put a few drops of oil in each one to kill them. Hopefully that takes care of the problem in a few days.

Consumer Reports is out with its reliability ratings in this month's issue. Subaru's Forester and Crosstrek got high marks, but other models like the Legacy dropped back into mid pack. Other makes fared equally as spotty, but Toyota and Lexus maintained their top positions. The take away this year is to look at data for specific models, and that the more accessories a car has, especially the infotainment systems, the more likely they are to have decreased reliability.
