Gear or Hydrostatic Transmissions for Compact Utility Tractors?

And then there the fact that I can pull start my gear tractor...

For a seldom used tractor (I do have them) I don't need to screw with a batt. ect..., I can park it on a hill or give it a little pull, and with a little roll, it's off and running. A few minutes running gets enough charge in the batt., so it will start the rest of the day or even for a few days...

Yeaaa, I know, yuppie tractor owners wouldn't dream of doing such a thing!! lol

I didn't think of that ! Good point.

I probably didn't think of it because in the 25 years I had my gear tractor, I never had to. :D

That is one advantage to gear tractor I had forgotten. But I haven't done that since about 1970. :)

A dropped loader and 3 point implement puts a damper on roll starting. That's why jumper cables exist.

I consider myself the TBN historical authority on this matter and with that everyone who has been here long will agree.

The answer is gear. No further discussion is necessary. (Is a smiley face really necessary here?)

For YOU...

BUT not all of us have or even want a loader on every tractor... And, THAT would be me.

Hahahahaa!!!

I honestly can't remember the last time I bump started anything. It had to be in the 80's. For that matter, I can't think of anyone I know that has a stick in their car, with the exception of several young, male Mustang owners. As for tractors, I think that was 80's too, the last time I bump started one. Well, it was a tractor, sort of... it was a baggage cart tug at the airport. :)

Everything else we just jump started with cables.

Well, you just be sure and park your non-loader no attachment mounted tractor on that hill every time you plan on shutting it off, then. Sounds convenient. :)

Nope, not always... Just in the fall when I know it probably will be used for firewood...

Actually I've pulled a loader tractor to start it too, just run the chain under the bucket and it will lift it enough to bump start the tractor.
