OK. it looks like it is the safety switch on the clutch. I unplugged it and pressed it repeatedly by hand. Then I was able to start it. So I drove it home and turned it off. same issue. Looks like this little switch needs to be replaced. -Jason

Good news! Nice trouble shooting. Have fun with that tractor!

My 3033 was doing the same thing, I adjusted the switch by the two nuts that hold it in place (one on top and one on bottom) . works fine now, hope this helps..

Hi All,
I am having the same issue with my tractor which is a 3038 HST. Was working fine after a day of shredding, put her in the shed, and went out to go move some hay and she would not crank at all. Turn key, wait for glowplug turn key rest of the way and nothing. Just silence.. Any thoughts for an HST tractor?

Try the simple things first.
Check your seat switch and the switch on the PTO lever. The PTO switch has a tendency to get knocked out of alignment by a stick or something that might get jammed up in there. Also try holding the key in start position while moving the PTO lever back and forth.

Hi George and thanks for the reply. I just tried all of that and no joy. Battery is showing full on the tester. It is very weird, was running fine when I put her in the shed, and then would not even crank... About out of ideas.

There is also a switch to "prove" that the HST pedals ae centered in neutral. Under the right floor board --- just reach up and move the pedals back and forth and you'll see the switch. It's also adjustable and may not be actuating to prove the pedals are centered in neutral.

The only way you can successfully diagnose an electrical problem is to first ensure you have a good fully charged battery. A bad battery can read full voltage (12.6 volts at rest) but not carry a load. So, have the battery load tested (pretty much any big chain auto parts store will do it for free). Once you have ensured you have a fully charged good battery, then start taking voltage readings from the battery. I've also seen many electrical issues due to bad grounds.

As has been suggested, safety switches are often a culprit too.

Thanks all. Battery Tested OK. I do not see any misalignment or obstacles with the HST pedal safety switch. Tried the PTO switch while turning key etc..
Thinking I might need to get it to the shop at this point. Odd thing is it was working fine when I pulled her into the tractor shed.

Thanks everybody for the help. I ended up tracing wires back and found a wire had slipped off the coil (I think that's what it is). Once I put the wire back on the blade sticking out it fired right up. Must have had a stick hit it just right when I was shredding deep pasture.
Feels good to hear her running and be able to move some round bales today.
