California banned "assault rifles" several years ago, and one of their stipulations to define an assault rifle was a rifle with an easily detachable magazine. To get around this, manufactures made rifles without an easily detachable magazine. This magazine detached, but you had to use a tool. One such tool was to use the pointed tip, of a loaded cartridge, thus a bullet. So was born the "bullet button" magazine release.

As you can see it is very hard to define what an assault rifle is. Because having a semi-automatic action is shared with so many other general firearms including most handguns and many modern shotguns, that does not really make for a unique definition.

I don't think so, if you're talking about a 1911. The bullet button requires a tool. The 1911 requires a finger.
Years ago I had a 45 acp 1911 I never used a tool to strip it down to clean it just push a button and the slide came out and the mag.
