I have a John Deere 7 backhoe with an irreparable main relief valve. I can't find a replacement anywhere..is it possible to replace the entire 6 spool assembly with an aftermarket unit ?

Welcome to TBn
Yes most definitely. JD did not build the original valve. Check with Surplus Center for a valve.

Thank you for the quick reply! I found this at Surplus Center:

Model 9-7502 for $741.95 (I can't post links yet)

It seems like it should work. I took one more shot this morning and gave the relief valve to a hydraulics place a few towns over. They are going to try machining off a welded on cap and repairing...Hopefully I get lucky, but if not I'll replace the entire assembly.

Out of curiosity, which valve is it? I am fighting the loader/outrigger control valve on a deere backhoe right now

This is actually just the main system relief valve located in the inlet cover (doesn't actuate any cylinders). I'm not sure what the exact set point is on mine, but it's range is between 1550-1800 psi. In my case, the previous owner welded the cap on, possibly in an effort to stop a leak. It's definitely leaking now and I have a blob of metal instead of a cap. They probably melted the seal and o rings in the process too. Seal kit is actually available, but there is no a availability on the valve.

Check with ARPS. They built that backhoe.

Thanks, Rick. I just send them an e-mail. Can't hurt to try. A friend of mine actually thought he saw an International Harvester logo on the casing..It's definitely an OEM control valve and Amerequip seems more likely. How did you know that they built that one?

I'm a parts guy at a New Holland dealer that also can deal with Ameriquip. And or service department works on all flavors of machines. A Deere #7 , an ARPS (70?) and New Holland 757B are the same machine. Don't expect to learn that ARPS built the valve, I'm sure they didn't. But Ameriquip would be an easy place to look first for parts for it.
