I had my new BX2370 delivered Thursday, and have been unable to use it until today (Saturday) due to work. Unfortunately, the owners manual did not come with it, and the place I purchased the tractor from mailed it to me Friday...I was hoping to get it today but did not. Anyhow, I have a FEL and 54" MMM. I wanted to try the MMM today on my yard, but could not get the mid mount to engage. The tractor has two sets of levers, one set engages the PTO, the other set allows me to select either rear PTO, rear and mid PTO and the last setting which is rear PTO only. I had the tractor in N, about 1/3 idle, I moved the set of levers from the off to the on position for the PTO (no problem doing this), then I tried to move the selector from rear PTO only to the last setting which would be for the MMM only. When I did this it "grinds" immediately, so I stopped the second I heard this. Am I doing something wrong, or what exactly should I do? Since I don't have the owners manual I want to make sure I am following the correct procedure. Unfortunately my dealer is only open until 12 on Saturday, so they are closed.

Hum-m-m-.....from memory... First off set the throttle as slow as possible. If your model has a clutch, use it to engage the mid-PTO slowly, then you can throttle up to the approx 2500 rpm range for mowing. I think that setting which is the most further back is the one to use. It may be marked "2500/960" which indicates the level to run the MMM or a PTO requiring 960. Hope this helps, until someone with a BX2370 chimes in.

You can shift it to the mid pto postion with the tractor shut off. Then start it up and see if the mower turns without engaging the pto clutch lever.

Mine has the HST, it is the setting all the way back. I'll try to get it in the proper setting with the tractor shut off, start it, then engage the PTO...the gear grinding scares me.

With the engine off and the PTO disengaged, the lever for the MMM will still not engage...it stays engaged for the rear PTO. I also checked the fluid level, which appears to be fine.

You might have to turn the pto shaft just a bit before it will engage with the motor off [ the gears aren't in line with each other] I have to sometimes shut mine off before I can engage the pto for the mower deck as well. It doesn't happen very often. BTW mine is a bx 2370 -1 .tractor.

Not sure I'm reading your 1st post correctly - but it looks like you engaged the PTO and _then_ tried to move the selector?

On my BX24 that wouldn't go so well. PTO OFF, select mid or rear or both, THEN engage the PTO.

I managed to get the mid PTO engaged this AM. I started it up, raised & lowered the deck a few times, put it in and out of 4WD, drove it around and after a few times it went in...I believe something may have been "binding" a bit. Thanks for all the help.

Glad to hear you got it working. Another thing to know is that sometimes the 4 x 4 lever is hard to shift out of. The best way is to move forward or reverse and pull up on the lever at the same time. You'll find that it shifts out of 4 x 4 way better this way.

Not related to your question, but check your front axle lube level. It seems BXs end up low after a little use.

Yeah, this is how I read the chain of events too. Select the gear (rear, mid, or both), then let out the clutch (move lever to engage pto).

Actually I don't remember the exact sequence of events. It has a high, neutral and low gear since it's HST. I know my other tractor will not start if the PTO is engaged, so I imagine I had it disengaged when I tried to change the selector to the mid PTO, but I am not certain. I also imagine I had it in Neutral, but I don't know if that matters or not. I mainly remember sitting there to determine which position the lever needed to be in to get the mid PTO working, and it grinding when I tried to put it in position...then I stopped. At that point I was aggravated and had no manual to figure-out what to do, and if I had done something wrong. Massey Driver's post got me thinking about how my MX5100DT doesn't like to go into gear, or 4WD sometimes, and that something may be binding a bit since everything is "new". When that happens, I usually raise the front of the tractor with the bucket and it will go into 4WD, if the gears are being stubborn, I usually shift it into another gear, then back to the one I want...which usually works. I also remember the salesman showing me one of the tractors grinding a bit as well and him saying they do that sometimes when they are new, but quit when you use them awhile. Whatever the reason, it's working now and I cut some grass with it, so far I like it. I did make sure the PTO was disengaged before I selected the mid PTO...it did take a few tries to get it in, but it did not grind. Now it goes in and out with no problems. I appreciate everyone's responses...hopefully my manual will come in the mail Monday. As others have suggested, I will definitely keep an eye on the front axle fluid. Does anyone else have any tips or problem areas for these SCUT's?

Nothing was binding. Zoltanthe gypsy was exactly right. You are always supposed to have the PTO OFF when you select which of the two shafts you want turning and THEN engage the PTO. If you do it in the other order it will "clash the gears" as you are attempting to engage two moving gears at that point. To put it another way "NO, this is not a syncromesh transmission."

I'll keep that in mind, it would have been nice to have the owners manual instead of two manuals for the loader, I even looked on line for a PDF of the manual but could only find repair information. Hopefully the manual will arrive today.
