Fan/alt belt

My sx3100 manual says to change fan/alt belt every 50 hrs, isn't that kind early? Wonder if there is a problem if they suggest that

Could it possibly be that they mean 'check' the belt?

I would believe ' inspect'.

And change it when it wears/cracks/ shows signs of delamination.

That's what my 424 manual says. I thought it meant to change it at first glance too...

For what it's worth, mine failed at about 500hrs.....shredded. And the local dealer didn't even have one in stock. Took the old belt to a good local auto parts store where they cross referenced the number, and had two different brands in stock.
