Good morning all. 64 here this morning with a high of 63. Sounds like it might be cooling off today.

rswyan, Please don't post the video of when old yellow finely gets mad and stands up to fight. Don't think it would be pretty. :)

45F light rain should stop in afternoon highs low 50's.
If the weather holds true looks like I'll be able once again continue on my outside list of things to do for the next 5-6 days. :)

Enjoy the day all.

If I remember correctly high premiums for insurance were high when I was young mat tied and tough to afford the TR-6. Have overseen policy's for company with 500 employees and 50 million dollars in bond able work. In simple terms insurance company is betting you have no losses you are betting you will. Yes rates were high back in the early 70s but gas was cheap so was my pay

This has always been a friendly place and hopefully will continue to be lots of diverse knowledge from the group and a caring lot to boot. Let's not let that change

59 and light rain going to 65.

Took my JD mower steering assembly apart again yesterday, seemed a little loose, and I bought a $5 bushing...they're plastic now rather than metal. The old metal one had an oval hole worn in it rather than original round. Took 2 hours, but much tighter now, and hopefully won't allow the pinion and sector gears to wear out again so soon. Took a peek at the new heavier duty models while at the dealer...left my checkbook at home :).

mkr7734;4426281 Just the way it was. I was just saying what I went through said:
MKR, first of all, I kid around a lot and the longer you read the drivel I write you will understand. Secondly, we were ALL high risk at that age. Heck I rolled my car at age 16 with the Chief of Police behind me...thankfully I went over 50 years thereafter without an accident. You can read all about it...
Lastly, we are all having fun here. This is not Unfriendly Politics. We meet for coffee each morning and some of us drink it all day...

Casualty Property insurance companies went through a competitive phase, and it would not surprise me if it kept repeating itself, where companies want to increase market share, they lower rates, the loss ratios go up (no surprise) and then they wildly overreacted with huge price swings and cancellations. They made me feel bad about myself as an agent; I was abusing my neighbors by handing them bills that were ridiculous and they trusted me. So I left the industry and concentrated on the life and financial services part, plus a long stretch in the title insurance back office business. So I hear you MKR, yes it was about the money; the problem was the industry didn't know how to manage itself and really jerked around its clientele. Ask any small business owner back then with a gas station or contracting business or worse a roofer or tree surgeon. They were loved one year and thrown out the next and it had nothing to do with their losses.
I have been an independent insurance agent for many years and worked all sides of the street, including spending a year teaching every insurance policy word for word to trainees in a corporate training environment. Every word...so I have lived and breathed this stuff all my life, seen what the three piece suits in Hartford CT would do with a wave of a new regulation to create havoc out in the market place. Insurance companies know how to say no very well, they do a poor job of saying yes and frankly meaning it.

And after looking at auto applications for over six years in Washington DC/suburban VA/MD in the 70's, I quickly learned that folks just do not tell the truth. You learn to be a bit cynical as an underwriter because those who gamed the system learned early on talking about all those tickets put one in the Assigned Risk or the most expensive policy.
so folks conveniently forgot those tickets and it was up to me how to pass judgment. And I tried to be fair. Really was like a doctor assessing health risk; i.e. how many risk factors do you have? Risk is normal; it's how much that is the issue. And no driver thinks they are a bad driver...

And when I looked at my friend the police chief and asked him if he thought my car could be fixed, after sliding upside down on the pavement for about 150 feet, he looked at me, shook his head, groaned, and was probably trying to figure out how to explain this to my father, who was head of the school board and very involved in town. My brothers and I never got into trouble so this was pretty unusual. I was hustling to get home, out too late on a Cinderella license (though I was coming from work so the local cops looked the other way for working teenagers) and slid on a turn on a small country road, hit the culvert which flipped the car on its roof. Three stitches in my head when the roof came down and hit the dash. Oh was I lucky. And I remembered that day, as an underwriter, knowing that all of us were going to have a bad day sometime. My job was to make sure the folks who had too many bad days were charged more so others could pay less. That was the theory...

ok, I'm going to try to be a little less jesty in my posts with new folks; this is not working out well and most of you know I mean to offend no one.

57 going to 67 today, rain is starting and going to continue raining steadily until early tomorrow morning. Now they predict just under an inch.
Winds slight from the South.

I'm headed to my wonderful local meat market where every part of the pig is displayed proudly. Who wants some corned pig lips? I can pick up a tub for you...
Looking for some steaks or something fairly easy to cook for wed night when company comes. These are my childhood friends, the real foodies, and I'll let him do the steaks while I do the rest of the meal. He'll do a better job than I will...

And then Thursday our plan is for the guys to put the repainted old Cub Cadet back together while his wife works in my garden, which she dearly loves, and also does better than I. Some guests one wants to leave early...not this kind who really help. Living by myself, having help is a big deal. And when your best friends help, what fun... But oh my does he snore. So loud it comes through the wall...his wife is a real trooper putting up with that. or she has really really good earplugs.

Burpee plants starting to come in. Three kinds of garlic, two mints and two varieties of strawberries. Need to get the latter in the ground right after the rain stops. I opened the plastic bag and gave the contents some water, so those plants will have to sit there for a few more days. If I lay the strawberry plants out on a table, they will dry up, so I guess better to leave them in the shipping container. Everbearer varieties. I almost want to take one piece from each type of garlic and go squeeze it and see if I can taste the difference. There are four each of three varieties. That means 12 times X 8? equals a whole lot of garlic cloves...going to put the extras that don't fit in the garden in some big garden pots and grow them there. Will give some to a friend too. I do NOT need 100 cloves of garlic, good grief...;)

I think ole yellow held his own against the squeek. I liked it when he paused to scratch his ear in the middle of the assault.

18 yrs ago my wife rolled our car with our (baby) boys in it, I was overseas at the time. They came out ok, insurance went up some.

Good morning, wife had gone out with her girlfriends for lunch so she didn't want to go out for dinner, so she made a nice dinner for me and my son's family and we enjoyed a nice birthday cake that her friend made for her.

Good morning! 62˚ cloudy good chance of rain as the day lingers on making outside work iffy.

I like the the "time out I've got an itch" in the middle of the fight. The Squeak is fiesty but still knows his place in the cat hierarchy by the way he lays on his back and is submissive after the slap 1,2,3,.

This thread without TMI is just a weather report.

... So, now I have 2 jobs to pick from, it didn't get any easier.
But it's best to look for a job when you have a job.

No decision tonight, it's my anniversary.

I'm so jealous (of the job offers) I Never seem to get more than one, no choice for me...

Belated congrats on the anniversary! WOO HOO!

Be well,
David

Drinking first cup of coffee. 54° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 74° (Moab, UT.) with afternoon thunder showers. Yesterday as a great day for tourist things. Did a tour of Antelope Canyon. Great place for photos. RNG, if your trip to Page missed this. You need to try it again. It was cool in the Canyon.

Good Morning All.

37.8F and clear as a bell @ 09:00 ... high today is supposed to be 47F ... which is still well below normal.

If not for that, it would be a very nice day. Not to worry tho' ... 60's and 70's are on the horizon.

Got all hoses and associated hardware ordered for the grapple/diverter valve yesterday.

I think today will be a mostly inside day ... have a couple of new hydraulic hoses I need to install on the loader, need to do a little work on the diverter valve bracket prior to painting, and figure out how I'm going to wire the valve up. Can also get the quick-connects installed on the hoses which connect the grapple to the front hydraulic outlets.

Also need to finish welding the bushings back on the base of the cylinders, drill and tap some holes for grease fittings, and drill four holes for retaining clips in the hinge pins for the jaws.

Hope everyone has a productive, enjoyable, and safe day.

Good morning all. The experts say it is set to get a little warmer today, although after yesterdays unpredicted soaking, the weather people could just be making that up too.

I have a camper van that was made in the 1960's. Not a VW, this one is a Ford. It goes much better in a straight line than around corners and there is not much room inside, but it does have a certain charm, unlike anything else that I have ever owned on 4 wheels. Paintwork is the original two tone - with neither color ever coming back into fashion. Now it is showing it's age, looking a little faded and tired (like it's owner :) ). Yesterday was a bit wet for taking pictures outside, I will see if I can take one today.
Transit ... or an American style like we had over here in the states ?

I wouldn't fancy doing too many rounds with The Squeak. Not be long before she takes over as, err, top dog.
She's gunnin' for her rightful place in the hierarchy ... she even goes after me and The Woman.

A little ankle biter ... lol ...

... rswyan, Please don't post the video of when old yellow finely gets mad and stands up to fight. Don't think it would be pretty.
He's keeping his claws retracted for the moment ... at least so far.

The Squeak is in for a rude awakening if he ever decides to really go after her ... he's polydactyl ... has an extra digit (thumb) on his front paws, complete with claw ... plus an extra claw in the web between his "thumb" and first toe. All very sharp.

Adding The Squeak into the mix has been good though ... Mister's sister Missy has been completely unwilling to play cat games with him, so The Squeak is giving him some much needed exercise.

As long as she stays submissive, it shouldn't get too far out of hand.

Yup ... pretty funny ... scratching = "important stuff" ... :D

The part right after he scratches his right ear is pretty funny too ... has his back turned on The Squeak ... and then thinks the better of it ... wise move

The Squeak is fiesty but still knows his place in the cat hierarchy by the way he lays on his back and is submissive after the slap 1,2,3,.
Yeah ...

BTW - The Squeak is a "she" ... which probably accounts for some of the submissiveness (can I say that ?) ... and his willingness to tolerate her shenanigans ...

18 yrs ago my wife rolled our car with our (baby) boys in it, I was overseas at the time. They came out ok, insurance went up some.
Glad to hear they came thru it ok.

Had my own experiences with rolling a Datsun 240Z when I was in college. My passenger did not fare as well as I did, but he did survive. Stoopidity of youth.
