I got 12 pepper and a Yellow Pear tomato transplanted into the other kiddie pool. Can't read the lineup from this picture {but the cups are still in order, in the back of my truck} Also half a row of zucchini and half a row of crookneck squash. Good day for it. Slow rain off and on all morning.

Transplanted a row and a piece of what I think is Armenian cucumbers into the ground. All the trays were labeled, but it has been pretty windy and the label couldn't be found. Another perfect transplanting day, light rain all day.

Also planted Swiss Chard and Spinach into a tray, 36 of each. I'll keep them inside for now, at least until the rain stops.

Getting plenty of rain and the beans are looking good. Got the 70 tomatoes planted in the plastic and about 20 peppers we bought from the FFA. Friday I put about 30 bush baby watermelons in a seed tray that I'm going to finish filling the plastic rows in with.

Hidy Ho fellows, I see you fellows have gotten off to a good start for spring planting. Here in Southwest Va. It's getting warm enough to begin thinking of ground preparations. It's also getting off to a wet start, I plowed 2/3 reds of last years garden area Saturday morning the last 1/3 was just to dog gone wet I couldn't get traction. My quess is it still 4-6 six weeks before the ground warms enough to really get serious with planting. I'm hoping to get some lettuce and onions in soon and my neighbor is planning on planting potatoes in a plot on my land soon. Last year we planted Keenebec and Yukon Golds his were the golds which are a favorite of his but my Kennebec did so well he has abandoned the idea of Yukons so we are planting 100# of Kennebecs together.

The frame for the green house I put together in the shop last year is still in the shop. The kids were suppose to help the wife get it out and installed ( I can't work with heavy things) but no help as of yet. What a shame because we could have been starting seedlings already so it looks like I'll be buying plants and slips for this years planting seeds.
As the season progresses I will again look forward to sharing posts and pics with all you fine fellows. This is my favorite season and thread. Though I really enjoy gardening and the outdoors I am disabled and spend to much time in bed resting so reading this thread helps make up for of the lost times outside and all of the others here that help to make my garden so that I may contribute here as well. To all happy gardening

If I could figure out how to plant and grow water lilies in my garden I'll be in business. I sure can't seem to catch a break with the garden dry enough to get a vegetable crop in the ground. Another inch over the weekend and 3 days of rain coming later this week.

Today I put up deer fence around our garden. I did learn that of all the things starting to come up deer are partial to spinach and green beans. Didn't touch the peas, corn or potatoes that are growing well.

If you have a space 4 foot long you can hang a couple of shop lights with the plant and aquarium tubes. You can get a lot of sprouts in a small space using the trays. Looking for sprouts every morning is Margie's favorite part of gardening. {at least for now}

I have found if they never get a taste of your garden, the fence works better. I had deer in the garden last fall, and haven't made any improvements. Hoping the ones that got in there were killed last hunting season.

We got over 6 inches, but with my sand, it will be ready to hoe in a couple of days. But like you, we have more rain on the way. It did make for some good transplanting though.

Anybody grow their own sweet potato slips. I decided to give it a try. Got a couple to respond, but now what do I do?
