How does your garden grow?

Then just before dark I got a few onion plants transplanted. Also the Swiss Chard and spinach. They have been inside under the lights, and I missed a watering a couple of days ago, so a few of them were toast. That is the biggest drawback of grow lights. Well, that, and they cost money, while the sun continues to be free.

I've got a few beans on my Blue Lake bush beans. Plants are very short though.

The first zucchini blooms.

Straight neck squash.

Sweet corn in trench is starting to tassel.

I'm adding kitty litter to my soil mix. I don't have my notes in front of me, but I'll post the ratios when I get them.

The next good transplanting day is Sunday, so I just set the Pruden's Purple down in the soil for now. I have a few more in gallon pots that will have to be up-potted soon. Room in the trench is scarce.

Sweet corn.

3 kinds of sweet pumpkins.

Not too good of a stand of soybeans. The seeds planted in trays did about the same.

Pink eyed purple hull peas.

Field corn with pole beans.

Armenian cucumbers. I saw blooms and a little cucumber after I had put up the camera.

Melons.

Yellow pear tomato.

Next up.

Tomatoes are looking great. Do you use any soil mixes under your plastic? Or is it just dirt and fertilizers?

I just added that top dark layer Wednesday and Thursday. It's the compost from a spot in the pasture where I put out round bales a couple years ago. Took my mini tiller out there, worked it up, loaded it in kubota rtv and shoveled into beds. Hope it helps.

I have some extra sweet pumpkin sprouts I'm thinking of planting in the old cow feeding spot. The dirt is very rich. But if I want to keep the deer off them, it would mean more fence building.

Someone was turning on the sprinkler for them. They would have missed you if it wasn't for that.

I got out after work and transplanted two 6 packs each of Sierra Gold Cantaloupes, Heart of Gold Cantaloupes, and Tender-sweet {orange meated} melons. Also had 4 Armenian cucumbers in two 6 packs. That is a 33% germination rate, which is pretty bad. Luckily I have plenty of seeds.

I put 4 Pruden's Purple tomatoes in a swimming pool full of my new kitty litter soil mix. I'll post pictures and the ratios of the mix later.

You are right. I have it attached to the yard irrigation system so the plants on the pier get water three days a week. Also, we had over 3 inches in the rain gauge, so they did not go lacking for water. Lots of blooms and much leaf growth. I need to protect leaf growth all I can for these on the pier because the July sun is quite hot.
