Kubota zerk grease fitting size

Does anyone know the grease fitting size for a Kubota Zerk? The research I've done indicates it is 8MM x 1.25 but would like verification.

Also, is the size universal across the Kubota line? My three tractors (M7040, L48, BX2200) and a neighbor's L5240 all need a zerk or two (or three).

Messick's shows "Kubota GREASE FITTING Part #K5221-71280" $2.33 ea. There are no details and no other Zerk listings on their site.

I think you will find the ones on the Loader to be SAE not metric thread, those on the tractor are metric.

Thanks. I do have an assortment collection of Zerks and tried all that were close. None of the ones, neither SAE nor metric, fit. That is why I asked the question.

Looking for specific size(s).

There's SAE, metric, and Whitworth, (British). SAE is; Society of Automotive Engineers.

The FEL zerks on my L4240 are 1/4-28. I haven't needed to change any on the tractor, but have heard they are metric. Go figure. :confused3:

Just changed out some zerks on my 2620 as well as the blower and I believe they are 8 mm. I bought a box of them off Amazon (had both SAE and metric) and matched up threads for the replacement. When inserting new zerk I was cautious to make sure I didn't cross thread or get SAE into metric or visa-versa. Some of the original zerks were defective in that the springs and balls were missing. I am not sure about the FEL or the BH. I'm sure I'll find out before too long.

When I bought my Kubota L4400, I bought an assortment of Zerks for my make and model at the parts department at my Dealer. The assortment included a list of the zerks, their sizes and the location and size of where the zerks were used. I don't know if Kubota still does this because it will be 2 years in July when I purchased my tractor.

I think creekbend has the answer.

My Kubota dealer replied to my e-mail about Zerk sizes and recommended going to Harbor Freight and buying their metric and SAE assortment. There is no standardization to Kubota grease fittings.

Interesting, the fittings on my MX5100 and the LA844 loader are all the same SAE. I bought the tractor and loader in August of 2011.

I bought the harbor freight sets and there was not a match for the zerks on my LA724 loader.

i had that problem no sae or metric fit had to go to kubota for then 8mm was to bit 6mm to small same with sae

Do you know what they are? I have one on an LA844 that needs replaced.

I think I remember reading that some of the zerks were tapered as opposed to straight. Not sure if that makes a difference.

One of the zerks fell out of my BH92 while greasing. I tried for 15 minutes to get it back in and couldn't. My buddy stopped by and I had him try to get it in and he couldn't.
I got my assortment of zerks and tried metric, which was wrong and 1/4-28 and none would go in. I knew it wasn't metric, so it had to be 1/4-28.
I got my 1/4-28 tap and I knew I had to be careful (I'm not a mechanic) so I didn't cross thread the tap and screw it up. Cleaned up the threads and it went in fine.
Now I know the BH and FEL are 1/4-28 and the tractor is metric.

Update from the OP:

The Harbor Freight standard and metric Zerk sets don't have the correct size for my tractors' (and neighbor's) FELs. All of them take a 8mm x 1.25 Zerk.

A few 10-packs were bought online from McMaster-Carr and Zoro and they work perfectly in the FELs. Haven't had a need to replace any of the Zerks on any of the tractors (yet).

I haven't been able to get the zerk on a G1800 front PTO shaft to take grease. Finally backed it out a few turns and it took grease. I think the threads are too long and it is up against the shaft so no grease can go in. I found this with suggest different thread lenghts for grease fittings. Going to grind down the current one or find one with shorter threads. Just componds the problem with getting one. The G1800 parts diagram doesn't even show a grease fitting, so I guess Kubota just replaces it with one off their shelf.

Rather than grind it down, why not just put a lock washer under it?
