Air in lines?

When hooking up a hydraulic cylinder with lines attached for the first time, should you prime the cylinder/lines with hydraulic fluid? If not, where does the air in the lines go?

It will flow through the system and get released in the hydraulic tank. You can save some time by adding some oil to the cylinder if convenient to do so. Otherwise it will purge when you operate the cylinder.

Great! Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure if it would act like disc brakes with air in the lines. Thank you!

I have added several cylinders,never pre-filled.The newer tractors are self priming.

To speed up not getting a lot of air in the system, just level the rod end hose off and run cyl out then hook up rod end hose.
