Good morning!!!!

Good morning, the rain looks set in for the day.

Finally got to try out the Stihl FS90R. After 5 minutes with the supplied nylon line I swapped over to the 10", 3 blade knife and walked over to the wetland for the last hour of daylight. This area used to be very popular with small wading birds, but is now too overgrown for them. It is always far too wet to get a tractor in, even in the driest of summers. A hand held brush cutter seemed the only viable option, although at 1.5 acres, I knew it would take some time to do.

The Stihl was fabulous, as many of you told me it would be. I hardly noticed the weight and the knife blades didn't hesitate to chop down anything that got in their way. Much better than the 4 stroke Honda I used to have, with the FS90 having far less vibrations.

I initially intended venturing no further than a few yards from the fence, as beyond that the ground floats and I only had knee length waterproof boots on (which we call "Wellingtons" or "Wellies". ) I got a bit carried away with how easy it was to cut and kept moving towards the centre, even though I could feel the ground starting to bob up and down each time I took a step forward. The cut vegetation was forming a mat for me to walk on and stop me sinking. A weird sensation, but quite fascinating. How far could I get like this ? Only one way for an idiot like me to find out, so I kept cutting, making it right out to the open water in the middle. As I turned to come back I must have twisted the supporting mat away and my left boot immediately broke through the surface, dropping me down up to my thighs. Within a second the cold water had rushed in to say hello to my toes. At least it was only water, I have sunk before in this bog and in most places it is a muddy ooze that is reluctant to let go.

34 right now and a sheen of ice and slush over the walks and drive. The high today is about what it is now.

I'm up later than usual since I have an appointment at the Montpelier Social Security office this morning. I also have an option to call in rather than be on-site. Due to the weather (and the possibility the employees at the office may call in), I'll probably call rather than drive the 25 miles north.
This issue is an alleged over payment. Since it's kind of confusing and a rather long story, I'm not going to elaborate at this time.

A test pilot who survived an amazing 2,407 aircraft carrier landings died a few days ago, at the age of 97. I'm not sure if any of you will have heard of him as he was a British pilot, called Captain Eric Brown. He lead a quite incredible life. Amongst other things, by the time he stopped flying he had flown over 400 different types of aircraft. If you have a little spare time one day, have a search on the internet and read about some of his exploits - maybe with an occasional blast of the Top Gun soundtrack playing in the background, although "Winkle", as Eric was nicknamed, was more partial to a bit of Glenn Miller.

These gentlemen are almost all gone certainly the Greatest Generation and their contributions were nothing short of amazing

We have a flock of turkeys ranging from 20 to 40 pretty much year round. Our dog
thinks it's great sport chasing them off,

while our cat either ignores them or tries approaching them out of curiosity!

Sorry for the picture quality. My Moultrie wildlife cam doesn't take the greatest
pictures.

Really like your avatar

46, and will get no warmer today. Had a little shower last night but nice and clear this morning.

Out on our Frisbee hike this morning saw first forsythia blooms...and lots of daffodils.

David, nice neat job on that deck.

Eric, I'll read about Capt Eric Brown. Glad your trimmer is doing the job and didn't go for a swim. I use a blade like yours and have been pleased.

I know I created myself a lot of work, my three decks are all natural wood, but honestly, I could not find a composite that looks like real wood. Sadoma's and most of the other composites look nice, but at least compared to natural woods, they don't look the same. My son did composite on his and spent a lot of money and the care is very easy, somehow I just couldn't do it. Now that I'm retired it's no big deal to wash and seal them. I don't power wash them, too hard on the wood, lifts the grain, I use a bleach/detergent/water mix in my sprayer.

So much for that, rain overnight, low 60's early, upper 40's now, headed down and very windy.

So far as I know, there is no law forbidding it here ... but probably be a good idea to check and verify that.
<snip>

45.6F and overcast ... winds are out of the northwest, but we're not yet on the backside of the front ... still pretty nice out.

Managed to find the install kit for security floodlight yesterday. <snip>.
RS and others - Posting all these security features on an open forum let's everybody know what you are doing. It's like writing the combo for a lock on the lock.

Leave some surprises for them.

Good Morning. 0710, partly cloudy, 55F with 75% humidity. Forecast high of 68F with no chance of rain today, and a low of 41F tonight. We had a passing shower during the night, but not the thunderstorm predicted. A little cooler day today, but we should get in the 80's next week.

I'm doing pre-cleaning lady cleaning this morning. I'm got two loads of laundry behind me already. Want to find some time to spend in the garden too.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

Drinking first cup of coffee. 60° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 87° with sunny skies. Another patio day.
Txdon, gloves are always on the list.
Eric, great story. Eric Brown.
David S, nice deck and view.
Good Morning All.

Good morning all. Newbury, don't worry. RS has enough protection devices now the Squeak has her own swipe card.
Besides he has those poisonous spitting fish now so if they get inside, it's all over.
Actually, I'm sorry you went through this worry RS.

I'd like to be sitting on David's porch looking out over the Pacific, eating that pulled pork....
David, nice job. My last deck was Trex and it looked like new six years later. The screws seemed to pull in a little; not sure my installer's technique was perfect but
a light powerwashing and it was fresh again. For a seaside environment, really the right choice.

51 degrees, basically the high for today, in rain showers that are ending. About a third of an inch.
Off to get a haircut, may move some more stone when i get home.
we are going to get some cooler weather for a few days, with heavier rain tomorrow night, then early next week the weather changes to much warmer.
Day's in the 70s, nights in the 50's. I'd like to Tupperware this weather and bring it back out later...

29 this morning and headed to 45 today. Few flurries around. Nothing heavy. Rain forecast for in the morning.

I'll get the Kubota out today and load it up for a ride to the dealer. 50 hour service and a leaking remote. Well first it needs to be hosed off. Then back for some maintenance in the chicken coops. While I have the trailer on I might swing by Menards for some cedar for a couple of raised beds.

Good morning! A cool 43˚ and sunny.
I started the paver and flowerbed boarder project. In the pick below you can see the curved boarder which will be extended to be the boarder of the paver walkway connecting the side patio to the back sidewalk.

Good morning, it is bright sun here but only 17 with a daytime max of 34. Snow tonight and tomorrow then 60s next week.

Going to GameStop to get a gift certificate for Dan Jr's birthday and pick up a new hair dryer for the wife's birthday. Then I will pick up some Hydraulic oil for the John Deere, engine oil and a filter at Farm & Fleet. By then I will be broke .

Eric, glad you like the Stihl. They are nice machines but they don't help you float. :)
Roy, did they pay you to much or did you pay them to much? I know there are limits on what you can make before age 65.
Randy, my deck is all natural wood, power wash them, too hard on the wood, lifts the grain, Been there already.
When I replace the top of the deck this time it will be composite.

Roy, did they pay you to much or did you pay them to much? I know there are limits on what you can make before age 65.

Apparently payments were made to a Pennsylvania account after we moved to Vermont. We were still in the process of selling a house in PA for the first month or so of 2013. SSA made payments to that account until June 2013.
We're not sure where the money went, who got it or if it was even paid to the account.
