I've wanted to add a ssqa to my tractor for a while. But my metal working tools consist mainly of a grinder, stick welder and a BFH. My tractor isn't common (honda 6522) so no off the shelf solution is available.

So I ordered a couple rebuild kits off ebay for a bobtach. Total cost was $145 for all the misc. little pieces handles and pins. For both sides.

The wedge pins are 1.21". I was going to use 1.25" dom tubing but I couldn't find any locally. I had some sch 80 pipe and 1-1/4" type l copper. The pins slide nicely in the copper and the BFH persuaded the copper into the sch 80 1.5" pipe ;)

Did you change cameras? These pictures are small, but the ones that won't load may be too large.

They have to be 1,000KB or smaller. Also if uploading several at once the total has to be 1,000KB or smaller or they get ignored.

Not all the repair kits come with one of these pivot pins. But the toolcat one showed it in the pics so that's what I went with since they were all the same price.

And here is ready to be tacked together.

I have to cut the ears off the bucket. Trying to decide if I should break down and order a plasma cutter or use a grinder.

That's as far as I got today. Should work no?

And I was getting all excited.

I hope it was worth the wait.

And somehow these pics are showing 'up in this post even though I didn't attach them again?

It is. Looks awesome and can't wait to see the result. . By the way-buy that plasma cutter! It'll change your life. I've had mine probably ten years and love it. The new ones are small and powerful.

I hate grinding but can't find enough stuff to cut with my plasma. It's like a dang light Saber. Blows through anything.

When you cut the ears off the bucket, double check before you do that the pieces removed can then be welded on to the new plate. That round-back bucket will be a bit of a challenge to make the mount on that side.

I don't think you can use the ears in one piece, from that bucket and get the correct rollback angle on the SSQA.

I had a similar situation making a SSQA. It was easier to make new ears than to adapt ears from my round back bucket.

I know I need about a 65 degree back angle on the face of the ssqa. I see now that i cut the ears off straight (blue line that wont work).
Ill have to see what would happen if I switch the pins to the other hole in the ears and cut on the red line. I may end up making new brackets. But that would mean moving the bucket farther from the pins which Im trying to avoid.

The other option would be shortening how far the cylinder extend out. Maybe shortening the rods and cutting on the blue line would work??

I guess I have some more figuring to do.

One option is make new brackets, sell the bucket and buy a skid steer bucket.

The bucket isn't worth much as is. It's got a frown and is getting a little thin in spots after spending 23 years outside. If I find a flat back bucket I'd buy it but I'm not really looking.

The main reason I want SSQA is to be able to use forks and I want to build a lightweight grapple to move logs to my splitting area. I've got a tree service that drops logs off in my front yard. The wife gets a little annoyed if the pile gets too big before I split them :(.

I think my best bet is to make new brackets that give the proper 65 degree angle. And then cut the bucket ears to give me a flat spot to weld the adapter plate to.

I should make it so the adapter on the bucket is 90 degrees to the bottom of the bucket when sitting flat? I think that would give me the proper rollback and work for other attachments??

... If starting from scratch is easier, yes. Those ears would give you the OEM holes free tho. -- And a small portion of metal added to them would give you the angle you need. :confused3:

I don't think so, my Bobcat bucket is not 90 degrees.

Alright man I thought I knew what I was doing. Now I'm more confused then ever .

...when the loader arms are lowered to be level with the ground and the curl cylinders are retracted all the way what is the angle that the face of the latch boxes should be at?
