I thought some of you might be interested in seeing my latest project since I got home.

Ever since I got my GC, it's had to sit outside. So to get it out of the weather I decided to build a small tractor shed for it. The original design start life as a basic loafing shed, but with the help of some plans I found online via some county in Colorado, it morphed to something a little bigger. My county has a 200 square foot limit on outbuildings before you have to get permit, ag building are permit exempt, except you have to show $1500 a year in ag revenue before they waive the fees....

I sized it at 14' X 14' (196sq ft.), that makes it big enough to hold my GC and also my Mule and some other things I'd like to keep covered.

Basically it's a small pole-style building, with a metal roof and T1-11 siding. Nothing spectacular, but it's the largest wooden 'thing' I've ever built, so it's a big project to me.

It's taken about two weeks of me and the dog (and sometimes SWMBO and my boys) working a couple hours each morning before I leave for work to get it nearly completed. I need to finish up some trim, and get it painted (if the weather holds out a few more days...).

Initially I was just going to leave it as a dirt floor and an open front, but now that it's mostly complete, I've been pondering about placing some concrete and building doors for it.... but I still haven't decided.

I've got a small set of solar panels that I was planning on mounting, so I can have basic lighting and maybe a trickle charger to keep the equipment batteries alive.

Anyways, I'll post up a few more pictures as I finish it up.

I did the same thing only my building is 18' x 27' . Put doors on it , their easy to build and provide more protection . Nice cover for your stuff!Shedmahall 008.JPG

I bought a new mule several months ago and wish now that I had bought it several years ago.

What a handy useful machine!!

Well.... after a couple straight days of rain, I went out and got my roof trim installed. It was a blistering 43 degrees, but only light wind, so not too bad outside.....

Glad I got it a little more water tight.... I beat the snow by about 6 hours.

Now to decide on what type of doors I'm going to put on it.

The bricks are just there to help cut the wind from coming under the side. I'll be bringing in some crusher run to bring the base up. Then probably add a concrete floor.

That looks great man. Now you just need one more for the quads!

Nice job on the shed! Could probably add on a 200 sq ft section every year until it's big enough to get everything under cover!

Thanks guys!

Actually, the quads are basically scrap. I had some grand plans to build an off road trailer, and some other things, but as the way most things go.... too many projects, not enough time. They'll be leaving in the next couple of weeks.

That would be nice.... but my county has a '10 foot' rule.... must be at least 10 feet between buildings... but.... I may sneak in an attached lean-to at some point to store my 3-point stuff... :D

I've had way too many of those projects over the years. At some point you cut your losses and move on!

For my horse barn, I did something similar. Built two separate buildings (we have no spacing requirements) with lean-to's attached on both. We are only allowed 120 sqft, so I technically built four structures with two roofs for a 22x22'. We have no restrictions on building a lean-to off of a 120sqft building. At least not that I could find.

Nice shed!

A 10' rule? So in a year or two a person could build an almost identical shed facing the existing one 10' away, and then that could be stage 2 then stage 3 would be to fill in the 10' middle section....and voila a 3 stage building all within county "specs"

Cheers

Hey all....

Well, here's the latest on my shed.

I built a couple of standard swing type doors for it. They came out around pretty good, and don't really weigh that much. I used 3 10" hinges per side, so hopefully they won't sag too much over time. My puppy didn't seem too impressed with them tho..... more interested in soaking up the sun. :)

And I got just about everything done with at least one coat of paint.... if the weather holds out, I'll get the second one on before the holiday.

I also got my solar panels mounted and battery shelf completed. I should have at least some basic lighting installed over the weekend...not that I plan on spending a lot of time out there in the dark. It's mainly going to be used to keep the batteries on my GC and other toys topped up.

Now I'm starting think about placing some concrete for a decent floor. I don't really need that much, and I can self-finish a floor this size. But with the temps being what they are, I think this is going to have to wait until the new year.

Looking good.
Regarding your 10' rule -
Could you build a pergola/arbor between 2 buildings?
Or a greenhouse?
And what about a tent?
My county in Virginia allows 256sq ft of building but 800 sq ft of "tent", which those shelter logic

things are.

That's a great job. Nice building. And it's your first venture. You can be proud of that

Thanks for the kind words guys!

I got my storage battery and and lights wired up this morning. Just the 12v florescent that came with the PV system, but they'll be fine for the amount of time I plan on spending out there in the dark.

I'm not too worried about the max size thing..... I actually have a metal building sitting here that I'm going to try and get put up next year. It's only 40'X40', but that should solve a lot of my space issues. :)

Everyone have a great Thanksgiving!
