I think the ball is welded onto the square shaft, rather than bolted through it. Also, it looks from the way the bumper is dinged up that the hitch has already done considerable side-to-side swinging...imagine if they hooked up a trailer loaded with a too-light tongue; the set-up would look like a snake going down the road (and maybe into the ditch!).

That swinging must make backing up the trailer a fun event

There was a day when simple clip on bumper hitches were the norm! <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/files/trailers-transportation/446041-share-pics-people-hauling-towing-image-jpeg"/><img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/files/trailers-transportation/446042-share-pics-people-hauling-towing-image-jpeg"/>

I think that was the same day they used real metal n lots of it for bumpers!

I had one also about fifty years ago. [the strap-on bumper hitch.]

View attachment 446068
I just bought the twin of this from a junk shop that liquidates estates. It likely is 50 years old.

I have a vague idea I can cut the curled end off the bumper strap, straighten the strap a little, then weld it to the back side of my loader bucket. Then I can curl the bucket forward to expose the ball, low enough to get under the trailer's hitch. Well something like that. I haven't gotten around to trying a layout yet.

Or epoxy it to the plastic bumper on your car :D

I just went to the basement and checked my chain clamp bumper hitch... 2,000 lbs tow rated with 200 lbs tongue max.

Just right for a 800 lbs aluminum fishing boat, outboard and trailer...

Your problem is solved, but I suspect this guy's problems are ongoing and not just in the hitch department.

The guy's greater problem is with Archimedes and the lever effect. Whatever his tongue weight is, it's multiplied by the effect of the "lever".

By the way, this double post thing is starting to go viral. Seems half my posts double.

In them days a chain hooked to the middle of the bumper worked well for pulling stuck vehicles.

Now a days you can't even have a strap rub the bumper or it will brake.

One of our friends had her BMW get hit in front. The radiator support got bent in. We used a piece if 3/8 threaded rod and a tow strap and bent the radiator support to where it had to be.

Yeah the double posting is a PIA.

I've learned a workaround: After posting if the thread doesn't return showing your post, don't submit it again. Instead open a new tab and click 'subscribed' or 'today's posts' in the new tab to see the thread. It will include your new post.

Later when you return to your tab where your post was seemingly ignored you will likely find:
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, contact@tractorbynet.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Your post got posted, but after a considerable delay that error notice took the place of returning to the thread.

I asked about Android app issues over a year ago and Muhammad (site admin) replied saying they were looking at upgrading things, but hasn't replied in almost a year. The forum software is woefully out of date & no-longer really supported, but they seem to have given up trying to upgrade or something.

From what I have seen, they are two separate issues.
The Android/IOS forum app (forumrunner) is not being developed since it was bought out by another company. There is a new version of the mobile site in the works, but its not 100% yet.

Double posts appear to be from a conflict between the forum software (vBulletin 4.2.3) and the "autosave" plugin (which autosaves your post while you are composing it).

Quite possible. At any rate both issues have been around for well over a year & not addressed.

If you catch it quick enough, you can usually just delete the duplicate. I check my profile in the top bar and double check any duplicates in the list to be sure...

That's a good explanation for the double posts. This double posting problem seems to be on the site and not in the user's browser. I read TBN only on a laptop (Vista) or desktop (W7), never Android. So I don't think the double posts are an Android issue.

At least they don't post six at a time :D

However, we recently saw the first triple post on another thread.

And what's the point of the auto save thing? How does one access that 'it's lost, I want to recover it' content?

Start typing, wait till it says "autosaved", close the window, then re-open the thread and go down to the reply box.
It will say "recover auto-saved content" in the bottom left corner.
