Kioti NX4510HST Cab
Hello,

I just picked up my new NX4510HST Cab Tractor Loader, Backhoe.

It's amazing so far but I haven't really used it yet.

I got the extra hydraulics but am not sure how to use it yet.

I would like to have to have the option of a thumb on the backhoe and/or a grapple bucket if I get one. What else would I need the hydraulic for? There are 4 ports on the back and two are connected to the backhoe. The other two aren't connected so I'm assuming those are they. But, where are the controls for them?

I'm new to hydros so this is a learning experience for me. I've used rented equipment a lot but never needed to hook anything up before. I'm coming from an old Ford 8N used mostly for bushhogging and box blading and brush clearing so this will be fun.

Got the cab with A/C and heat. Is this even considered work?? Kioti20151021.jpg

Welcome to TBN.
Nice...darn nice looking investment, and your bones muscle will thank you in years to come.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Enjoy the site and your new tractor.

Although I'm not familiar with Kioti, the other two 'ports' could be operated/activated via a button on the FEL's joystick. In any case, read your Owners Manual front-to-back and take things slow... even after you're 'used to' your machine. And have FUN!

Congratulations on the tractor, and welcome to TBN. To the right of the FEL joystick, on the side console. are three slots intended for the control levers of up to three sets of rear remote hydraulic valves. Your tractor evidently has two sets of rear remotes installed. Are there control levers in two of the slots?

Congratulations, that is a really nice tractor. I use my rear remotes for Top-and-Tilt and hydraulic rippers. I don't know about Kioti, but my levers are on the right fender. I can't get the picture to load.

Yes, there are 3 slots. Two have levers in them. One has a sticker that shows a cylinder on top and one on bottom. It seems like that's flow direction but I don't know. The second has no sticker but I can hear the pump working if I try to move it. I'm assuming that's C and D valve.

The manual isn't clear on this and I don't know why you'd want to reverse flow but I'm sure there are reasons.

I'm also not clear on what I can do with these extra valves and let's say I add a thumb, would I need a control for them? Or would the thumb use some type switch or what?

And, could I use the same thing for front grapple if I get a bucket with one?
Thanks for the advice.

You could just hook to your extra C/D remote outlets and run hoses up to the torque tube (crossmember) on your loader for hydraulic hook ups on the front of the tractor and control it from the valve you already have. You may or may not think it convenient to operate that way, but it sure is cheap. On my older machine the valve was convenient to operate with my fingers while my hand is on the joystick. See photos below.

Of course you can install either a diverter of a full 3rd function valve to operate your thumb with if you like but you will incur much more expense but it may be more to your liking convenience wise.

The Icons showing a cylinder retracted or extended near your valve levers are for you information to show you which way to throw the lever for which function either to extend or retract a cylinder. Keep in mind that the way you hook up the hoses of course will affect the outcome, as the hoses are interchangeable. If you reverse the hose hookup the flow direction will be reversed in relation to the direction the lever is moved.

Here is how I hooked up for my front Grapple

Thanks for the reply.

I see you have a joystick and a valve in front of that. I don't have that on mine. The second control lever is in the picture and I'm assuming that would apply pressure to the C/D set?

For the front Grapple that would work, I guess up for close, down for open?

But what if I add a thumb to the backhoe? Doesn't the second lever I have just open up the port pushing fluid through the hoses? How do you control a thumb in that case? I would assume you have to get another lever that then controls the thumb or have a switch that control it electronically?

That would depend on how you hook up the remote Quick Disconnects:)

Using your remote with its lever place where it is on your model would not be of much use for operating a thumb on your backhoe. I would assume you would be sitting in the backhoe seat, and not near that valve. You would need a second valve placed conveniently near the backhoe sticks or a electric over hydraulic valve you could operate your thumb from. Which is pretty much what you said above. When I was thinking of "thumb" earlier , I was thinking of an add on bucket "thumb" for the FEL bucket. There is a brand named just that. But you are thinking about a thumb for your backhoe.

Thanks!

I've been researching and watching youtube videos about how and what to do to install and additional function to the tractor.

Since I have the valve there already I apparently need hoses to go to the front and to the rear and a controller hydraulic with at least one but probably two (for front and rear) electric over hydraulic switches. So, what is all this actually called so I can start my search?

I was looking into the manual/fixed to hydro conversion unless there are some kits already available and then for the front I could use the same setup but with a button on the joystick to control a grapple, for example.

Am I on the right track here?

Congratulations on the new tractor, I've had a nx5510 now for about a year and really like it , it should serve you well. One thing I was wondering if you could post pics of the backhoe and how much clearance there is between the seat and cab.

Congrats on a beauty of a tractor! And welcome to TBN.
You can run the aux set of rear remotes to power a Top-N-Tilt setup for a box blade for instance, since you're familiar with B blades from the 8n. Also a wood splitter, or whatever you can think of that needs remotes to control it. Also front mounted snowblower or all angle plow, etc.
Take it slow and easy while you learn all the new tricks. And YES it's work; when the wife asks what you're going out to do....
Enjoy!

Did your dealer give you a run through on the machine?

I like that it has it's own lined parking space too.

As far as getting your tractor setup the way you want to run the front pair of remotes for a bucket grapple or snowplow, etc. and a rear pair for a hoe thumb, I suggest contacting MIE, (Michigan Iron & Equipment). Error
They have everything you need to do all of the above, I know since I have that setup on my DK-40. I use a diverter valve for the two pairs of remotes off a Suregrip joystick handle with trigger switch. The hoe has it's own lever tied into it's hydraulics, which moves the thumb forward or back, via push pull on the lever. They also set me up with my hydraulic thumb, which I had welded to my dipper stick on the hoe. Ask for Bob or Tony, and tell them I sent you. They're approved advertisers here on TBN, and I have no affiliation, except being a satisfied customer of theirs. PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks for the good info. I will definitely check them out.
Sadly, the parking space is at the business location, not the farm. But it looks good.

Backhoe thumb is run from the BH, not the remotes. Not sure, but I think that's an internal backhoe thing, with another lever on the control station. You'd have to ask your dealer, but the thumb does not run directly from the tractor.

Grapple, 2 ways. Third function/diverter on the loader circuit (1st is another set of hydraulics on the loader, 2nd is a diverter valve from one of the existing ports to another port). Both are controlled by buttons on the joystick. Or a line from the rear remotes to the loader, so grapple is controlled by the remote lever. the remote option is the cheapest, and convenience is debated. I lean toward the dedicated 3rd function, so the 2nd remote is free for other things. Hydraulic top links and side links, hydraulic implements (blade angle or tilt), the list is endless.

The two directions are for reversing flow, so you can reverse the direction of cylinders, or provide a constant hydraulic flow, I thinks that's how the backhoe works.

K0ua's valve is a different setup, and he's modified his so it's easier to reach, but it's still just a rear remote run affair.

I see the remote and loader controls in your picture, but not the 3PTH and draft levers. Are they still on the side of seat like the CK, and not like most of t he bigger tractors, that have them next to the remote controls?

FWIW, I already explained above, how the backhoe control station hydraulic lever/stick runs the backhoe thumb, and how the diverter valve allows for use of rear remotes, or front loader mounted remote to run a plow or grapple's open/ close or left/right plow swing. With a joystick button controlling the above mentioned functions and your two detented and non-detented levers used to operate side or top link extension/retraction of rear cylinders as needed.
This is an effective means of controlling two rear remotes via a diverter valve, with the addition of a front remote run off the rear remote as well by using the joystick button wired to operate the diverter. This has worked well for me for several years.

Yeah, wasn't paying attention and didn't see the 2nd page when I responded. I ended up saying pretty much what you did, or that's what I was trying to say

Thanks for all the replies. .

I will get more pictures this evening when I get back out to the tractor.

What's the difference between detent and non-detent?

It seems like the c/d lever is either on or off. Not like the reversible one but I'm not sure yet. I left it in the up position.

Working at a house right now and already used the backhoe to lift a carport cover that we are raising. Boy it sure was better than jack and blocks!

I am definitely going to get a thumb and would like to control it from the backhoe controls and also prefit the valves needed for grapple or something up front which would need a button on the joystick.

One more question : when you push the joystick to the loader all the way forward it stays till you pull it back. I think the diagram says float. What is this for and when would you use it?
