Here's another interesting pic. I didn't know Praying Mantis' had the ability to blend their colors???

Interesting, but must be a slow day in upper Missouri.

BTW, I was in NE Kansas last weekend and there were lots of grasshoppers. But just south and east of there, where I live, there are hardly any......??? Hum-m-m.....Also no Bag Worms on the Cedars this year..........but the grub worms have just about ruined my strawberry parch viz. about 50% kill on the new plants.

I know!!! I had always saw them on greenery. Didn't know they changed colors like that. Pretty amazing!!!!

Never saw one in my 64 years. If you study the close-up photo the details of color are incredible!!!

Mike, the older I get the more I pay attention to small details around me. I've already saw the big stuff so am now paying much closer attention to the small things.

I don't think they change colors like a chameleon but rather are born that color and then prefer that habitat.

I have no idea. I've saw them different colors but never thought they could change either. This one sure replicated the pattern of that old post he was on!!!

It came to me last night... The first insect is a species of leafhopper.

As far as the preying mantis... I actually know this for sure. They're all the same species in the central USA. Body color is a genetic trait (like hair color is for us). They then seek out backgrounds that match their body color (and they are very good at is as you saw). So they don't chage color but it was not an accident that it camouflaged so well. Cool isn't it.
