Whenever I have the hay spike on the three point, I am always afraid of walking into it when I am not using it. I came up with an idea to reduce the injury. I cut a 12 inch long piece of PVC, glued a cap on it and drilled a hole in the other end to hook a bungee strap to hold it on. Hope the pictures attach.

Smart idea. I leave my hay spear stuck into a round bale so it's easy to hook up and out of the way.

I'm often afraid I'll stab a cow with a bale spear.

Increase OD to 3 or 4 inch and reinforce point end with an internal reducer to 2 inch add a plug. Cover with a cap. Reduce the risk of pushing the point through a single wall of plastic. Well worth the time and cost of a cow.

I did the a similar thing on my loader bale spear. I merely cut a piece of PVC that fit over the spear about 2 inches longer that the spear and slipped it on. Did the same for the two smaller points.

That's great, but if someone like me is around we will trip over it. Add a big red flag to it.

Ain't that the durn truth!!! If I have the finishing mower on the back and park in the barn, I will skin my leg at least 3 times on the part that sticks up and has the wheel on it. I need to do this with pvc on all four pieces. I have a wound on my knee right now from one of those things. I have the hood off of the old 8N while I am doing some motor work. I actually fell over the dang thing earlier today. I had a 4x4x8 in my hands and didn't look where I was going, as it is usually a clear area...forgot...much pain ensued. Now my neck/shoulder/back is aching....:ashamed: I would hate to have a hay spear on the back, would probably wind up with it up my butt somehow...lol. yeoch!
