Every time I go into my dealer and spend a little money, I get a free hat. Keeps me going back.

TNSTAAFH. There's no such thing as a free hat.:)

Steve

Of course, in a manner of speaking, you are correct. However, the rim and tire I bought for my tractor today was $220 with or without the hat.

Yep. They're nice and all that but it's a marketing ploy (COLLECT THE WHOLE SET!) just like a fast food chain offering 'free' drinking glasses. You get so many of them that you hand'em out to friends & family = brand name "X" gets into the public eye.

Whenever I completed a JD customer satisfaction survey, my dealer would send me a 'thank you gift', which was a spectacle cleaning cloth (with their business credentials on it).

I've got 15 of the things laying around here. Mind you, a new hat would've been nice on occasion.

Kubota is not the only ones that do it!:D

I walked into the dealer and asked for a hat and he told me I had to get a tractor. So I figure I paid $18,000 for the hat and the tractor was free. :D

Several years ago I bought a bull dozer. The dealer gave me a hat and JD sent me a jacket. That jacket was the ugliest thing you ever saw. I figured they got them in and nobody would buy one so they gave them away

Same thing happened when I bought my 4105, the dealership's cap was a standard inclusion but the salesman 'wrangled' a very nice bomber-style jacket with subtle JD and dealership embroidery.

I generally shame my local Kubota dealer into a hat, by wearing their competitions hat in, although I think I have spent enough money there, they should keep me in hats forever......

Cheers

So, it's not like they lure me in there with the offer of a free hat. What I do is have them ring up my purchase and while they're doing that I grab a hat from the rack and plunk it on the counter. Without me saying a word, they always just throw in the hat for free. Now, they won't do that if I'm just buying a can of spray paint.

After purchasing my around 3rd new Kubota I got a hat. The next time I bought another Kubota I said "That should be worth 2 hats" and got two hats. This continued on until I was up around 15 hats by adding one more to the last number at the last purchase. Now I just take any new style Kubota hats that Barlows has in stock which I think was 3 the last purchase. I wasn't even a hat guy until I started getting Kubota hats but almost always wear one now when I'm out in bright sunlight because my eyes are real light sensitive which is the main purpose for a billed hat with the bill facing the front of ones face instead of the back of their neck. :) I have a rag clipped on the back of my hat to shade the back of my neck since redneck is a very common remark used here in Ky.

Johnthomas, you should consider that there might be such a thing as too many hats? (Too many tractors, also?)

My dealer just texted me a picture of a bunch of hats and said pick one after earlier in the week I walked in with a competitors hat on.

No free hats at our dealer except when I bought the tractor. But I did recently score about 50 feet of used conveyor belt which I can use to protect our shop floor from tire chains, etc.

Seems like every time I walk in the Kubota dealer they  and run.

Forget trying to dissuade him, varmint. It's like an incurable dusease with JT. But it's a good one for us Kubota owners, because he can tell us about just about any Kubota tractor, because he's probably owned it at one time or another!😜😃

I forgot to tell about my "special" Kubota hat. Steve Barlow asked me would I talk to some Kubota engineers from Japan a couple years ago. I agreed. He called one day with a date and approximate time. I went and talked with 5 of them and seemed very pleasant but not very talkative. May have been the Ky accent.:D They did have an English interpreter with them and did ask some questions. They gave me a Kubota hat that they said was only available in Japan and no I don't wear it when I mow or do landscaping work. I'm getting ready to do when I get off here. Having the Mennonites from Casey County, Ky build me a 24'x 48' pole barn structure and I've got to get it leveled and gravel delivered and spread before they come next month to do the build. I normally do my own building but age and bad shoulder has benched me for nailing jobs and I use a nail gun but to much pain for days/weeks after doing it so not worth doing it myself now.

My dealer is good like that too. I get hat's, jacket, Kubota lanterns and flashlights, grease gun every time I go in there too. It makes you feel good about giving them more of my money.
Little gifts go a long way in bringing customers back.
