I like the CCI products as well. You should try the sub sonic loads. Great fun, and accurate as all get out. Might not cycle an autoloader, but worth a try.

Why would subsonic be more accurate?

Why would subsonic be more accurate?

Subsonic 22 LR ammo always shoots more accurate. Round nose lead also shoots more accurate. All of the high dollar match grade ammo is subsonic. With good ammo I can shoot a 1/2 inch 10 shoot group at 25 yards with a pistol. I never shoot anything faster than standard velocity in my high dollar guns. I shoot any crap out of my 10-22 or my Henry lever action.

Our local sporting goods store has had .22 in stock for the last few weeks now, at least everytime I have been in. They have Federal, American Eagle, Eley and another brand I can't remember - $4.99/50 for except the Eley, which was $9.99/50. They have a limit of 5 boxes per day.

I will shoot any ammo out of any gun (assuming it's the correct caliber, of course), and I've rarely had any troubles. I think that I've had some American Eagle ammo that wouldn't cycle in my P22, but other than that, I can't recall any issues. Well, I did get some old 8mm surplus that wouldn't fit in one of my Mausers, but would in another.

Subsonic 22 won't cycle my Remington 597. Everything else I've run through it will. Round nose is useless for varmits but fine for plinking. The Remington hollow points have been ok for squirrels and the like but not coons and skunks. Those always seem to take hp cci mini mags.

Remingtion thunderbolts have always been the most accurate for me in my marlin 880SQ bolt gun. 1255 FPS IIRC

Also buy alot of winchester wildcat. same fps but not quite as accurate for me anyway.

Have shot alot of squirrel with both, and killed alot of tin cans plinking with both. I have no reason to buy anything more expensive or higher end. The thunderbolts can shoot a 7-shot clip full at 50 yards, and the resulting large hole can be covered with a dime.

I have never tested the Thunderbolts for accuracy because I only use them for plinking. They do function good. I have shoot several 550 round bricks with only a few jams. IMO the Winchester ammo is among the worst. The federal auto match is a close second worst.

That is interesting. I have experienced more duds with Remington than any other brand. Winchesters have always worked well for me. Can't comment on Federal--quit buying that years ago when all their ammo that I tried left the bores dirtier than any other brand.

And my experience is that Remington Thunderbolts were the dirtiest that I shot, with some bulk Federal that I had being second. In fairness, I don't really see A LOT of difference among any of them, I just know that I usually had to run a few more patches through the barrel when I shot Thunderbolts.

As far as accuracy, I couldn't comment. There are days that I couldn't hit the ocean if I was shooting from a battleship...

They're all accurate. Every one I shoot goes precisely through its own hole in the target.
