Yea but you still want the best mpg you can get in the class. Gas adds up to real money!

I've owned my '07 Tundra since July of '07, It now has 115,000 miles on it and has averaged 16 to 17 mpg on the local county roads(45 to 55 mph) but little in town driving. On interstate trips I've obtained as much as 19.5 mpg, if I keep the speed below 70 mph. I tow a two place "clam shell" snowmobile trailer with two sleds in it and average 13 to 14 mpg. The trailer weighs about 2100lbs. and is a good sized sail. I have towed an equipment trailer with two farm tractors on weighing an "estimated" 12,500lbs and it towed that load very easily; agreed that weight is beyond the advertised tow rating and I am not advocating others attempt this, but is just an aside to demonstrate the Tundra's ability. This is the longest I have owned a vehicle(8 years) and I've no intention of trading it; I'm hoping to get another 115,000 from it

Wasn't that a toyota truck towing the space shuttle in Los Angeles a few years back?

As for trucks... my best is still my 91 Silverado with 5.7 and 4 spd auto... plenty of power and a joy to drive... maybe this is why I'm always being asked to sell it?

The most underpowered truck is my 1985 with 5.0 I've had no issues... just have to put it in 1 for the mile drive up the hill every night going home... wanted a 5.7 and learned it was 49 State only and no longer available in California... only the 5.0

You're right, but, I want a truck that can do what I want, when I want. I don't need the expense of a diesel but need a truck that can tow at least 10,000lbs. Hook your cylinder de-activation truck to a 10,000lb trailer and I'll wager my monthly social security(ya, I'm that old) you'll get no better mileage than I will with my 8 year old Tundra, if you can even come close, but that's another story; adieu, I'm done

I think we all accept that mileage will suffer when towing -- it's a fact of life. That's no reason the truck needs to guzzle gas the rest of the time. Equally important to towing capability, for me, is the other 95% of the time I use the truck, like when commuting. For years I avoided trucks because they made horrible daily drivers due to the ride/handling and gas mileage. That is no longer the case -- you can pretty much have it all now. I can tow on the weekend and then commute and get 19-21mpg all week long. What's not to like about that?

Anyone remember two speed rear axles on trucks... we had one once and boy did it make a difference.... low range loaded and it was unstoppable... high range empty.

I sure do. Change the axle speed with a switch on the stick shift. Got much better mileage.

I've always heard the Ford F150 is the top seller among all vehicles. True? ..... I never checked ...

Top 13 Best-Selling Pickup Trucks In America - June 2015 YTD - GOOD CAR BAD CAR

Ford is selling all they can make, their production is finally ramped up but they have a frame shortage. "F-series buyers paid an average of $43,300 in May, $3,300 more than a year ago and $600 more than in April, the company said."

Overall Ford pickup is #1, Silverado #2, Camry #3, Ram pickup #4.

Even if you add the GMC and Chevy pickups together Ford has a slight lead.

I hope they fix it so I can see the corners. In close quarters with my 2007 gmc, I have a hard time determining how far away my bumper is from the thing i don't want to hit.

With my '88 and '97 chevy's i new exactly where the corners were.
The Chevy Colorado is the same size as a 90's "full size." New pickups are huge, many will not fit in a standard 20' parking space.

Toyota though does not have their motors buring quarts of oil with less than 100K miles, or pistons slapping around and loosely falling out of the motor when the rod bearing are removed!!! .
Naw they just have chronic problems with oil foaming and sludge, and frames rusting out so fast they decided to replace them rather than face an immense class action suit.

Never found a vehicle That pays me - they all cost. If you look at the five year ownership costs of pickups at a place like Edmunds.com their is little difference.

No dog in the fight, I need a pickup like a hole in the head but own both Chevy an Ford vans.

I remember that as a real young kid -- we had an old Chevy with that -- was a little "plunger" on the gear shift you could push/pull. Low was pretty aggressive, would push you back in the seat.

Off Topic: We were thinking the other day as to why we went so long without a PU and remembered how difficult it was for our late son, who had a mild form of MD, to get in and out of a PU and we resorted to smaller SUV's for many years. He's been gone now for 4 years, been a very difficult time, losing a child at 21 years of age just isn't right, at any age for that matter, should have been us first.

I lost a 19 year old Son 21 years ago. It's just as difficult to deal with today. I've just trained myself to control it. Bring it out occasionally and think about it. Put it away when it's unbearable. Today would have been his 40th birthday. The family will all gather at our farm this afternoon and 4 wheel. Life goes on.

I've been luck... never sold a vehicle for less than I paid for it... then again, I've only bought used except once when I was working in Germany and bought a new BMW souvenir to take home back in 2002 and still have it... so, looks like I can never sell it or I would take a loss.

My boss paid 160k for a new Ford GT back in 2005, kept it 6 years and sold it 210k... he had dealer tags so didn't even have to pay tax or license...

Grateful and overszd, those are terrible losses and I'm sorry to hear about them. The thought of losing a child is one of those dark, fleeting thoughts that all of us have but we try to chase it out of our minds as quickly as possible. Living with it as reality must truly be terrible.

My mom died when she was very young. I remember my grandfather at the funeral saying "It's not supposed to be this way" over and over and over, as if it could bring her back and put him in the grave instead.

I hear you ovszd. You learn to put it away but it's hard sometimes. We laid my parents to rest within exactly 3 weeks of each other, Mom passed away on a Friday and Dad passed away exactly 3 weeks later on a Friday. I thought that was rough but it was nothing compared to loosing a child. I couldn't tell you the date of either ones death, I know the year but with our son, I remember the day and time. What a nightmare that was. When my wife and I had to make the decision to remove life support it's just something you never forget or quite get over.

Recently we lost my late Fathers last sibling, she was 85 and so many were really tore up at the funeral and there's nothing wrong with that but I sitting there thinking to myself, "hey she lived to be 85, she saw a lot of changes and lived a good long life". To me her death was more of a celebration of long lived life.

My Mom is 93. If she dies today I'll mourn my loss. But I'll celebrate her longevity and good health while it lasted.

Mine was a late night knock on the door, opening it to a Sheriff's Deputy with the saddest look I'd ever saw on his face. Auto accident.

I think yours is much worse.

Just the same flimsy plastic and garbage arranged differently. But probably better looking then the interiors they are designing these days. Vehicles twenty or thirty years ago were much nicer and plusher then the ones today. You can spend seventy grand on a truck and just have ugly stark plastic on the doors. Probably for ease of recylcing. The cloth interiors today are nasty! They remind me of a cheap plastic table cloth. I bought leather but that would not have been my choice if I had a nice plush fabric option. Very disappointing. Hopefully my 08 Sierra doesn't rust to pieces anytime soon.

My buddy has a '12 Chevy HD fancy model (can't remember the nomenclature). The interior makes my '00 Super Duty Lariat look like a Cadillac.

Shoot, the interior on my 2014 Sierra puts our Acura MDX (2012) to shame. And its quieter and smoother riding too. As for the cloth, no complaints -- I was thrilled to be able to buy a vehicle with cloth seats after all the years of only having the option for leather. I really hate leather in the summer, regardless of the color.
