Ok..so.. I got some leaking cylinders. .did a bunch of reading, you tube, ordered my parts, so today is the day ..
I picked the easiest one for my first , front curl . Got it apart , cool...next installment of new seals .. a little tricky but there on ..huh.. what was the big deal about that ...
spoke to soon...went to reinstall the ram ..
no matter what I did , I could not get the first wiper in with out it catching on the grove for the locking wire ..after awhile I grabbed the hammer and got the ram inside the cylinder. .
CRAP.. black chunks of rubber.pulled it back out and yep .tore the first wiper ...
back to the work bench to look at the old wiper ..ok..so it is possible to install this with out messing it up...then I noticed the hight difference between old and new ..not wanting to ruin another new wiper , I installed the old one that still looked good ...after a few good shoves it went in and works fine with no leaks ..
QUESTION. .how dose one install the new taller wiper with out cutting it on the lock wire grove ? ?

I never have rebuilt cylinders with lock wire grooves in them. I'm guessing lots of hyd. fluid as a installation lube. Don't put it in dry. Is the wiper a flat seal, or o-ring? Most often old o-rings will look a little puffier then new ones, as they have swollen. Maybe polishing the edges of the grooves edge?
Lots of times, I reuse seals that were not known to be leaking. Good job! How about a photo of this wire groove on the next cylinder you rebuild?

Will do on the picture ..
the wiper is hard plastic with a o ring inside of it .the wiper is like a ramp , one side is low and the other side is high . There are two wipers on the end of the ram and both of the high sides are supposed to face in opposite directions ( out )
the other ones on the list are the swing cylinders, and stabilizers .

I think they sent you the wrong kit. Happened to me too. Had to go to a local hydraulic shop with the cylinder and get the correct parts.

Did you have a part in the kit that you think you didn't need? Show a picture of the kit.

Could be like Matt says. I bought a kit for my Backhoe to rebuild one of my swing cylinders. $80 something dollars from the dealer. Local hyd. shop charged me $9 for the same seals and orings. Just take the old seals to the shop and they match them by sight.

Use a piston ring compressor, i have also seen someone wrap a piece of sheet metal around the rings and use hose clamps to pull it all together. Lots of oil, when its dripping add more.

I have never seen or heard of anyone using a piston ring compressor to install seals in a hyd. cylinder. I think the size of the cylinders are too small and usually, the rod end will get into the way.
