Will that part fit in the grove where the locking wire goes? If so you put that in the grove slide the piston in then remove that part. Or use shim stock to get your seal past the grove.

I have never seen or heard of anyone using a piston ring compressor to install seals in a hyd. cylinder. I think the size of the cylinders are too small and usually, the rod end will get into the way.
hugs, Brandi

It works, i used a ring compressor from a small engine, probably from when we rebuilt my dads lawn boy mower. I can't remember if when opened all the way it fit over the rod end, or if we took apart the compressor to get it off. Just tap the rod into the cylinder just like you would rings and it goes together so nice. I wasn't real sure if that was the right way to do it or not but it worked for me. Until we hired a new tech at work, who did volvo heavy equipment. I asked him his trick and he opened his tool box drawer with piles of different ring compressors in it.

Different sized hose clamps with smooth brass/alum shim stock will do the same thing......two piece Teflon piston seals need some "squishing" back in the groove just before installation (clean and greased of course)......otherwise they will tear up in the retainer groove everytime
