Been following the Iron Butt for several years. I've ridden a few saddle sores, and one bun burner (not gold) I am not a rally type. I think you almost need to have a IT background now to really be a top competitor. Those guys have two or three GPSs, and are running many different laptop programs to help route planning. It's a big learning curve to master it all. I guess I'm too lazy, or not smart enough. I have a ton of respect for those guys that can do it. I'm hoping they all stay safe.

Both my GF and I do Iron Butt rides and one day rallies.
She is the first woman to pull off the Ultimate Coast to Coast to Coast (Key West to Arctic Ocean and back to Key West) and she had only been riding 3 years when she did it, solo.

That is one heck of a ride. Did you guys do it continuous, or break it up. You have 30 days each way, right?

We didn't do it, she did it solo, except Alaska, where I flew in and met her on a rented bike for the Dalton.
You do have 30 days each way, but she did the whole thing in 21 or 22.
We got back last night from a 13 day 4,000 mile ride from Boston to Memphis, Nashville, Alabama,MS,NC,WV,GA,VA,PA,CT,RI ,NY and maybe another 1 or2 states. Riding everywhere south of PA is great. The toads from PA north are just miserable. The back country roads down that way are absolutely beautiful farmland and I may have likely passed by some members properties. Being from. The rusty north, I could not help but notice all the older trucks in yards that simply do not exist up here anymore. Made me think about buying some of the and selling them here. They would go like hot cakes.

View attachment 436808 This is the '98 FXDL that I gave to my son last year. About ten years ago I rode it to Sturgis. Took two days there for my bum to straighten out and I could then ride home. I really didn't like the rally that much - way too many people.

Took a trip out west with a bunch of friends twelve years ago. Went to Mt. Rushmore and then rode on to Yellowstone. Made a stop in Sturgis so the Harley riders in the group could visit the Sturgis Harley dealership. Isn't too much of a town without the rally and all those people.

I would like to do that tour. I would like to visit Sturgis, but not during the rally.
