78 at 2100. That's the forecast high for Saturday. Can only mean one thing this time of year and that's storms.

RNG. Shop presses as handy as ... Well you fill in this is a family site. Only drawback to them is they take up so much room. Still don't know how I made it so long without a 20 ton. Well yea I do. They had a much bigger power press in the maintenance shop at my former employer.

Drew. I hope your brother appreciates and takes care of the boat the way you do. Your new boat is going to fit better in the slip anyways. How's the woodshop coming? I finally finished building the trusses to my building.

Good evening all. 2cd day not to see the outside temps, but about the same as yesterday. work on garage shelves stopped due to no trip to pick up more parts. Did get the network mostly put together. Need to work on DHCP but the supplied password didn't work, another call to support is in order. Wife worked on putting books on shelves so progress continues.

59F High was 76F today. Next several days are to be mid-70's and dry. My green beans are about 4" tall and one cuke seedling has reached the stage where one leaf has serrated edges. I have the world's oldest tomato blossom. Moving right along.

Mostly_gas, sounds like you are getting settled in, moving is a challenge. How are you liking the new house?

Got the cutting edge flipped today. Burning straight down into the bolt until the nut was hollowed out, then drive the bolt out with a drift punch seemed to work best with my small cutting torch. It went a lot faster than taking them off with the angle grinder would have.

Got in three hours of field clearing this evening. Our nice rain yesterday just soaked in. The ground was still fairly wet but not smeary. I don't like to compact the soil that much but summer doesn't last long in Maine. Gotta get 'er done in time to switch to firewood. :)

68 this morning another hot day on the way high of 91 later with lots of sun and humidity to go around

   / Good morning!!!! #35,305
Coffee has been poured. 57° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 71° with rain and thunderstorms thought the day. Got the hearing aids. Wife is happy. $3200. Going a bachelor for a few days while wife is off to a Quilting retreat. Whole bunch of little projects to complete the next few days.
Good Morning All.

53F now upper 70's for high.
Half work day than next 3 days off :cool2: weather looks good next 3 days. :)
I'll take mower for ride this afternoon than play it by ear until pillow time.

Enjoy the day all.

good morning all. Cooler 70 degrees out going up to low 80's today in rain this afternoon, but at least the forecast for 3 inches has now dropped to .5
I hope to get a little work done in the woodshop this afternoon when things get wet; after mowing this morning.
Picked up the last of the drawers from the cabinet shop, now have to put the fronts on and the drawer pulls.
My little ac in there is struggling on these 95 degree days, gets down to about 76 or 77, but at least it's drier and sure feels cooler. I left it on last night to see if it could cool the room down enough today so it would hold the cold a little better. I set it on 75 and just let it run. Surprising how much better it feels if just a little of the humidity is taken out.

Then tonight I join some friends for dinner and I think, based on reading between the lines of the emails, that I will find another female at the dinner table. Not sure, just going to see how things turn out.

68 out this AM, big boomers on the way with temps into the 90's again. Saw damage from a small confirmed tornado from Saturday's storm just a few miles north of us. Ball field dugouts look to have taken a direct hit. No homes damaged or people injuries. Same storm was that outbuilding wash out one for us. Crazy weather here these days.

Be safe all. Enjoy the day!

68 up to 86 today...cloudy now and lower humidity came in yesterday...even temps in the 80s feel good with low humidity...like your shop, Drew.

...and have fun at your dinner.

Never had a motorcycle, but have enjoyed all of your stories. I guess I was too busy trying to figure out how to make my skateboard go faster. :)

Took another pretty hike in the mountains yesterday to a waterfall I've never visited. Didn't see any bears, but had one other hiker report some on the trail.

Roasted my first batch of coffee beans yesterday. Here's a pic of the roasted beans vs the green unroasted ones. A lot of fun.

Thought I better get on with some knapsack spraying this morning, walking along the fence lines before the rain comes this evening.

Good to hear you made it back on the motorcycle for a while RNG. For a laugh I did a short length of spraying the way you were riding - both eyes shut. Oh that's scary, I kept thinking I would hit the fence, but when I opened my eyes I was yards out into the field.

Drew, your kin will probably never have the boat in near the shape you are giving it to them. You are a kind man, wish I had an uncle like you.

I agree Kyle, wouldn't it be nice if everyone had an uncle Drew.
Made a thought of my uncle George come into my head (he was the one who kept chickens in his sidecar). When I was about 9 or 10 years old, uncle George, who made knives for living, gave me a beautiful fixed blade knife with a simple but well crafted leather sheath. At that age it was almost certainly the best present I'd had in my entire life. After a few days I foolishly said something about it to my aunt, who was absolutely horrified that I had been given that knife. She made my uncle grind off the end so it was no longer a sharp drop point. I probably cried and I'm sure uncle George must have felt the same way about what he was doing to that knife. My aunt was such a lovely person that I couldn't hold any bad feelings against her.

Whoever said "better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all" has never had a treasure desecrated like that. :weepy:

Good morning, 61F heading to only 72F with rain also in the forcast. Working on closing in the bottom of the rear deck for more storage. Son came over last night and helped me install the roof section, will work on it more tonight if it is not raining.

72 this morning and headed to 97 today. Heat index will see 105+. Take care of chicken coops then take dad the bailer. Got the chicken coops mowed yesterday so only yard left. Then back to bushhoging if it doesn't get too hot. Clean out truck bed. I need a load of feed and lumber. So I hope to do that tomorrow.

74F @ 4:15AM. Sunny today. High 104F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Drew, lots in the media out here lately trying to school people on dealing with the heat. One thing they warn against are sugary sports drinks, as the sugar is as bad for you as that in soft drinks. They recommend instead sugar free versions if you feel you have to drink sports drinks, but conclude plain old water is really the best thing for you. Unless you've already let yourself suffer heat stroke, at which point you should seek medical attention. And a headache is one of the symptoms.

Folks like Farmer that have to deal with poison plants (ivy, oak, sumac) might like to watch this video:
How to never have a serious poison ivy rash again! | Extreme Deer Habitat
It's a clever demonstration, using black grease remarkably like what I found under my truck the other day, showing how to remove urushiol, the oil from those plants that makes you itch. Get the oil off your skin within two to eight hours, and you don't get a rash. Trouble is, the longer the stuff is on you, the more time you have to spread it around, and since you can't see it, and may not know it's there, it can get into some pretty sensitive spots. So the author recommends setting up a field station with a jug of water, some soap, and a rag, to be used as soon as you think you may have become contaminated. A common sense approach that requires no fancy ingredients, just a little preparation and discipline.

Yes, Farmer, the press here is shoe horned off the end of my workbench, with another roll away tool box sandwiched up against the other side of it. Somewhat limits what I can get into it without spending a lot of time moving things around, but 90% of the things I end up mangling with it fit in there just where it sits. And mangle I do, much more easily than back in the hammer days. I've learned the hard way that a press is a thinking man's tool, not only because it's easy to break things, but also because there is so much energy in play things can go wrong in a hurry. Safety glasses/face shields are a must, gloves, too, and using the press frame itself as a shield isn't a bad idea, either, in case something decides to take flight. Tools like that make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time I use them.

Mostly, there should be a reset button on the router somewhere that will set all the settings, including the password, back to the defaults. Googling up a user manual will then tell you what that password is in case you don't remember, as well as where that reset button can be found. Try something like "ES3296 (or whatever the model number is on the unit in question) user manual" as the google search string.

Dave, plunge cutting like that with the AO sure makes a lot of sparks, doesn't it? I always seem to clog up the torch doing it, usually with a nice bang to let me know it's time to get out the tip cleaners. Or put my hair out if I forgot to put on my hat.

Ron, I've got an older friend that keeps losing his hearing aides. Seems to go through a couple pairs a year. His latest are the old fashioned style with the battery pack behind the ear, selected because they're bigger and hopefully more difficult to misplace. I've heard special care is needed with tiny modern "in ear" versions when one is also prescribed suppositories, especially those who often forget to put on their glasses...

Eric, I didn't keep my eyes closed very long on the motorcycle, yesterday. But there's a very long, very straight road through the desert in Baja, and on that long and boring trek I did get some practice seeing how far I could go riding by feel. Quick blinks became longer lapses, and I think I eventually worked up to a mile or two. The accompanying adrenalin rush was just the thing to chase away the drowsies, which was the whole point of the exercise.

Lots of trees laying on smashed cars and houses on the news last night. I can't make up my mind if the storms these days are more violent or if the camera crews are just getting out there and showing us more of the damage. Either way, sure seems like there's a lot more going on than there used to be.

Another thing we're hearing about locally are bears. A couple of days ago a lady and her dog a few miles north of here got mauled pretty good by a bear in her back yard. Seems that the drought is driving them to water and food, both of which are common at the houses people like me build out in the sticks. One video was shot through a sliding glass door, with a house cat on the inside and a mountain lion on the outside, both hissing and spitting at each other. If either of those happened here I think I'd be reaching for a shotgun instead of a camera  Talk about the three Ss, you'd need a backhoe for one of those...

Took a little nap while a nice slap of ribs thawed in the sink yesterday, then put them out on the BBQ at low heat, keeping wood chips on the burner for the rest of the afternoon. This time I stayed close by for the last hour or so, making sure they didn't flame up when the BBQ sauce (Stubb's) went on. To help with the patience I sampled two of Jim Beam's Signature Craft Harvest series Bourbons: Soft Red Wheat and Brown Rice. Not exactly fancy names, but when the tasting notes mention brown sugar and candied yams, I pay attention. Both were very much as described, and quite good. Being Bourbons a little goes a long way, a good thing owing to the premium price and small bottle size. Been looking for the rolled oat version for a while, and it seems I'll have to redouble my efforts!

Hang in there guys, Friday's comin'!

Overcast and very humid here, supposed to rain, but it hasn't yet. Need to get out to the shop in a bit, I have been checking on my new chicks, I got 25 yesterday for the Meyer hatchery in Ohio. I got the redstar birds, very good brown egg layers.

rain never came, maybe a thunderstorm around dinner, but hot and dusty today mowing. Ground is dry and hard and shook me up pretty well.

Went to Kubota dealer to pay my bill for mulch delivered; they were really trying to impress me with their brand new dump trailer, 6 yards I think, which instead of dumping in one spot wound up spreading the mulch over too far a distance. Trailer is much closer to the ground than a dump truck and can't get the angle as well. The driver was my salesman and he was pretty embarrassed by the long pile he left. It was no problem, had it cleaned up in five minutes with the FEL. I think the dump trailer he brought was rated seven tons; a four ton one would sure be nice, and be stubbier so less dumping issues, but as neat and useful as I think they are, I just can't justify the money. On a working farm or forest, sure.

I was going to build one a few years back, but after costing out the parts, it wasn't worth it. But then, what is?? :)

77°F back home in Hawaii and a mild 107°F here in Mesa, AZ

Great trip to Grand Canyon. Really enjoyed the train ride from Williams. First time back to GC since 1977 and while the canyon itself remains spectacular the rest seems a whole lot more commercialized.

Getting ready for influx of relative, but I did make a pilgrimage to Harbor Freight. Been about 10 years since I've been in one and I suspect quite lucky I was only $100 lighter when I left.

What a nice uncle you are , Drew.

Be safe
Have a great day

Ah,,,,uhmm,,,,,,I used to practice holding my breath while cruising down the highway, but I've never tried that. I can think of better thrill rides than that. I'm trying to think of a nice way to ask if you'll put me in your will. :)

OUCH, that's hot. Maybe if you say it like Paris Hilton does, it might not bother you so much.
