Good morning!!!!

68F. Made it to 78F this afternoon. Tomorrow is supposed to be a rainy day (only 0.36") so I mowed the yard today.

I thought I was going to flip my FEL bucket cutting edge today but the bolts had other plans. I need to track down a set of new bolts and cut the old ones off. I always assumed the bolts were made like carriage bolts that would lock into position but they just spin merrily. The heads are countersunk and flat-flush with the bar surface, nothing to get hold of. They are also sharpened to a razor's edge from back-dragging--which I discovered the awkward way.

I did re-weld the bucket where it is splitting open on a leading corner between the bottom and the side wall. I tried laying more weld down this time. I have a Lincoln AC tombstone stick welder that I don't use often enough to be very proficient.

Dave sounds like you have plow bolts. And yep you will only try to hold one bolt while you loosen it. That is with very thick gloves. A torch is the best way to loosen plow bolts. And an impact to put them back on.

Thanks. I Googled plow bolts and that must be what they are. Knowing a name for them will certainly help. I think they are 1/2" X 1-3/4" but I will remove one to help hunt a set down. I have an OA cutting torch.

Good evening all. 70F and cloudy this morning, 91F,mostly sunny and wind 10-20mph. Real hot in the garage today. Ripped plywood into shelves and got them painted today, fill them up tomorrow with "stuff". Will start working on office/home network when I get too hot working in garage,

61 right now...high of 81 with a chance of thunderstorms.

Long day yesterday...started at 0530, knocked off work at 1700

   / Good morning!!!! #35,246
Poured first cup of coffee. 69° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 79° with a nice breeze and lots of sun. Second set of storms came threw about 1am. No damage here. But TV is reporting damage north and south of us. Power washing did not get started yesterday. Wife had other plans for us. Today we are off to a doctor appointment.
Dave1949, if you do not find the plow bolts at tractor dealer or TSC give Fastenal a try. Friend needed 5/8 bolts. That's where we found them.
Good Morning All.

75 this morning high of 97 later today with a chance of bad storms high winds. Yesterday it was so humid within 15 minutes I was soaking wet

   / Good morning!!!! #35,248
61F light rain most of morning, high of low 80's calling for nasty t-storms.

First day back to work after 14 days off, really not looking forward to it.

Enjoy the day all.

72 heading to 98. Tomorrow may stay under 90 for the first time in days.

Drew, hope you are feeling better and can chew something tasty with those refurbished teeth.

Taking my wife to get some pre-op tests today. Sinus problems. Then some mowing and tilling.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,250
good morning all, like Buppies, another hot sweaty one in store. I soaked through two shirts yesterday and that was enough. And likely do it again today.
Surveyor called back, all set for sea trial and survey on my new little boat July 7. Until then I'm digging through packing boxes marked "boat" to see what is useful in there. Glad I saved a number of old fenders; they'll clean up with a little 303 and be fine.

Am pulling my runabout out of the water early tomorrow morning, after hopefully taking it for one last spin, for good memories sake, and then will scrub it all down, again, so it will be nice when I trailer it to my older brother's on Friday. Haven't been to his new home in Markham, VA, closer to the mountains, (and further away from crowds...) than where he lived before. He's three years older than me and still lawyering in downtown DC, mostly international law. Hoping that once he gets settled in his new home, he might consider hanging it up and slowing down. Smell the roses a bit more.
My father died of cancer right before his 65th birthday, never got to retire. That's one lesson that did not escape me...

Local Kubota dealer comes this morning to pick up my LP 84" smooth top rotary cutter to take it back to sell on consignment. Decided not to use Craigs List so as not to invite the public in. Dealer will though and that's fine. Gave it a good wax job, cleaned up the inevitable guck around the zerks, and otherwise not much to do with it. Only a hundred hours or so on it from mowing fields. Never hit a twig with it. Just no use for it any more. Dealer said they get their most demand for rotary cutters/bush hogs in the Fall, for hunters clearing areas. This cutter really ought to be on an M Kubota, or 5 series JD, not my L Kubota. Bounce that mower up and down out back and the tractor does a nice shimmy even with the FEL on. My current LP finish mower is half the size, yet same width. And feels like it was a part of the tractor, with no shimmy at all. Sometimes I feel like I'm always sitting on the middle of a fulcrum, waiting to go one way or the other.
Heavier tractor like a model up or a Mahindra might not move around as much, but then every pound added is no friend to my lawn with R4 tires.

Wingsprd, thanks, little headache this morning but otherwise all is well.

Mostly, congrats on new place and take it slow in the heat.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,251
73 out this AM. Should be a heat advisory day today. Upper 90's. Best day, yet! Sarcasm.

Be safe today, hydrate, slow work if you can.

61F headed to 68 with passing rain storms today. They upped the forecast to 0.76".

Ron, thanks for the tip on the plow bolts. I saw them at AgriSupply online too. TSC appears not to stock them.

Dave, I'm impressed you have both a welder and an oxy cutter and know how to use them.
My two year old inverter welder has never been plugged in (very soon actually) and I'd land in the next county if I tried to use a big tank setup. So much to learn.

Lots of you, including our well know fabricators, have such amazing fix it talent. Guys like Farmer who can't wait for the service truck to show up when 50,000 chickens are at stake. Sometimes the operation has just got to go on and if you don't know how to do it, you are paddling without an oar...in front of the falls.
Always wise to keep a spare oar. Or a blower motor. Or harvester parts. Or a solar panel part when you are far up a mountain, even in Paradise. Spare parts desire...likely a common pull around here.

Morning all. nice breeze and 73* now. Might set a heat record later today. then storms.
Waiting for tires to get installed at costco. Wife had a flat last week. 63k miles on a 60k tire. Time for new. i notice they are rebalancing the good pair that i got here 6 monrhs ago. They will rotate so the new pair are on the back. i was first in line when they opened at 7.

Good Morning. 0730, partly cloudy, 76F with 91% humidity. Forecast high of 92F with 60% chance of thunderstorms today, and a low of 78F tonight. I finally got the rain that has been missing me the last couple of weeks. Only problem was it came all at once. When I got in from work last night I found my canoe outside the pole barn, 45 feet from where I store it on top of the trailer. Luckily my Camry wasn't parked in it's usual spot when it happened, or I would be calling my insurance company this morning. When I walked out to look this morning, I saw it was pretty full of water. Also saw a longleaf pine down, with a limb hung up on the power line. A few tomato plants were leaning pretty bad too. I need to get out there before it gets too hot.

64F at sunrise, sunny for the rest of the day. High 98F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.

Farmer, well I remember all the sinus and allergy trouble I had growing up back east. I literally feel your pain. Everyone reacts differently to medications, but I've had good luck with those that contain pseudoephedrine, specifically Advil Cold & Sinus, that also has ibuprofen. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Drew, glad you survived the ordeal with the dentist. You make a very good point about the roses, one that your boat gift will hopefully help get through to your brother. It's surprising how many people confuse hoarding with keeping enough parts and equipment on hand to keep things running, hopefully without a special trip to town or calling in a repair man. I learned that lesson early on when the British makers of my motorcycle went belly up. Parts became scarce, and when you did find them it was best to stockpile a few extras. It was also helpful to find fellow sufferers who'd formed a club around their common misery, and who could enlighten the uninitiated into the special rituals involved in keeping an old Norton on the road. A similar theme runs through many of the posts here at TBN, in so many different aspects of life.

Dave, +1 for Fastenal, or try the phone book for a mom'n'pop fastener store, who will likely have a more complete inventory.

Yesterday I got an early start when a friend arrived to work on his motorcycle. He needed help installing a power wire for the new GPS unit, and with a new set of tires. The wire was a simple thing, but it meant pulling body panels, finding hidden screws, and not breaking them in the process. The tires were tubeless, a blessing as tubes are almost always a wrestling match. We celebrated with hotdogs on the grill for lunch, then it was time for a nap ;)

I have an older bike, an '85 K100RT, I bought for the aluminum saddlebags it came with. They were made for only a few years, and rarely in full sized versions on both sides, as the muffler usually dictated a sizable cutout through one or both. Now it's time for the rest of the machine to find a new home, and that'll be easier if I can get it running again. I'd suspected a bad fuel pump, and yesterday figured out how to get battery power directly to it and confirm. On removing it, I found it held in place with the nastiest black goo I've ever run across. Chunks of the stuff had fallen into the well below the pump, and with a torn intake screen, likely are what caused the pump to fail. It seems that thirty years of soaking in gasoline had turned the rubber shock damper that surrounds the pump into jelly, a black, sticky mess that neither parts washer solvent nor carb cleaner would touch. In desperation I tried brake fluid, and lo and behold, off the stuff came. BMW thinks very highly of that pump, asking a princely $450 for a new one. As if that weren't bad enough, they demand another $75 ransom for a replacement damper. Fortunately, the cheapest thing on a BMW is the rider, and others more clever than me have found ways to adapt a more readily available pump ($40 on amazon) using short sections of gas pump hose ($17 at Napa) to replace the damper. Those orders will go out today, then I'll get busy changing out the antifreeze in the truck. It'll get a new thermostat and housing at the same time, a new experience for me. And a new upper radiator hose, an aftermarket one that routes around the serpentine belt instead of through it.

This all needs to get done today and tomorrow, as the temperatures later in the week are supposed to be close to 110F. That's siesta weather in my book!

Have a good 'un, everybody...

Close call. I had some flying boats experience years ago in Ohio. :D

My Dad's 12' aluminum boat was stored at my place upside down on its trailer with a tie down rope on the aluminum prow casting. The wind broke that prow casting off and took the boat across a roadside ditch, over the road, across a field corner, through my neighbors chain link fence around his 1/2 acre pond, and finally into his pond. About 250 yards total. Took me awhile to find the thing. He weren't happy but he was a pissy sort anyways, like he blamed me for the wind. I offered to pay to fix his fence but he thought his insurance would cover it.

My 17' Grumman canoe ended up out in a plowed field with about a 20 degree kink in the middle. It was scrap aluminum at that point.

That lot was in some sort of wind alley. We would get hammered good every now and then.

Morning all, 72F heading to 77F. Thunderstorms with high winds passed through the area last night, with trees and hydro line knocked down in the Windsor/Detroit areas.

83 this morning and headed to 89 today. I don't believe that but ok I'll hope for it. Take care of birds and then back to bushhoging. Need to clean up around hay fields and clip off pastures. Then mow pond lot. Then it'll be time for sickle bar. But that's a couple of days away.
