MF 135
I have a MF 135 that needed a new PTO bearing. I managed to get the snap ringoff with a modified set of pliers and now that the new bearing is in place, I cannot manage to get the snap ring back on. I bought a set of snap ring pliers but they are for snap rings with holes and also do not go wide enough to open the snap ring enough to get into position. Any help would be appreciated.

A picture would be a big help in understanding your problem.
Sometimes you just have to gently pry it on using small screw drivers much like putting a tire on a rim.
Get one end started and then slowly push it open and into the groove while holding the end from coming back out.

If your issue is expanding the ring you could get the proper tool, there are often referred to as transmission ring pliers.

Here's some pics of the PTO shaft and the ring. I have two sets of snap ring pliers. One set is not big enough and the other is a cheap pair that was designed for snap rings with holes. I will search for some transmission ring pliers.

I have a new seal installed and planned on cleaning the sealing area before installation. Thanks for the responses and will duckbill pliers work? The hardware store in town carries an 8" duckbill.

A quality set of snap ring pliers is a good investment.
I've had mine over 30 years and never run into a situation where removal or installation was a problem.

Nice. I admit without a snap ring set like that I spend more time on them than needed.

Absolutely. Mind you my SnapOn Bluepoint set was from the old days when they were still made in the USA. :)

What sets should I consider? I'm willing to spend the money for a good one but I don't want break the bank on a set I will use rarely.

That's a tough call. I paid about $250 for my set years ago and I see they are now $342. :(
