Just an FYI. If you had water emulsified into the hydraulic fluid and it was cold enough to freeze and turn into ice you probably crushed the hydraulic filter when you stated the backhoe up. Now I am not referring to a spin on type of filter because that one would have probably leaked externally do to the back pressure and you would have seen that. I am referring to one of the cartridge type that is enclosed in a heavy steel cylinder with the center bolt. Last year during the late winter early spring, just before sap season, on my relatives JD 2940 I replaced the hydraulic fluid twice and both times the filter was crushed due to ice in the hydraulic fluid. It has hydraulic steering and the crushed filter first starts to effect the steering. It is probably crushed again this year because the tractor lives in the open. That's all I have. Later.

If water is a constant problem, then a plastic sheet or taarp should be used.

Much cheaper than new filters and fluid changes, plus other damage from ice bursting other hyd components.

My number one question would be how is the water getting into the closed hydraulic system to begin with?
If you were to correct that situation then all would be hunky-dory again.

Condensation. The unit warms up but not enough to get rid of the condensation.

The hyd system might not be as closed as you think.

Just ask all the hundreds of people that that has had water in the hyd tank.

Another possibility is sump breather is plugged so heated condensation has NO OUTLET to escape.
