Purchasing new LS XR4040HC or XR4046HC: room to negotiate on price?

/ Purchasing new LS XR4040HC or XR4046HC: room to negotiate on price? #21
We decided on an XR4046HC last night. When I mentioned the prices seen on the forum ($27.5-29k), the dealer was shocked. He actually pays nearly $29k just to get the tractor sitting on his lot in Fort Collins, CO.
Thanks for your advice!
Chris

He does not pay $29K to have it sit on his lot. The invoice is $29K, and then the factory incentives are taken off of that number, making the dealer cost 6-10% lower. He will then add a 10-20% profit in the deal, along with the setup fee (called PDI), delivery, and other misc items. He just told you he only pays $29K for the tractor to make you think that you are getting a good deal.

I'm a dealer for Case IH. We have to price tractors the same way as anyone else, we just choose not to mislead customers on the invoice cost of the unit.

Yep, invoice is a complete fake number. I paid the invoice price for my 4047... And I'm sure they didn't just sell it to me with no profit out of the goodness of their heart.

We worked out something that gives him a reasonable profit, but not quite as good as what others have reported. I wonder if the Tier 4 emissions updates had something to do with that? Or perhaps the region of the country?

Anyway, we should have it in 2-3 weeks.

My local dealer (who I didn't buy from) told me about the same thing. When I gave them the chance to at least match the price I had from another dealer the owner told me he couldn't even get one for that price. WTH? They are all dealers. These two dealers are about 5 hours apart. I really don't like it much when someone is not telling the truth, or at least the whole story.

Chris, if you are comfortable with the deal is all that matters. Once you get that tractor it will all be worth it believe me. Sounds like you did your due diligence.

Congratulation on your tractor purchase. Solid machine from a reputable manufacturer. If you decide on buying a back blade, I think that you will be way more happier down the road if you go with a seven footer, instead of a six footer.:) Your tractor will handle it, no problem.

Yes. I read about that. Everything Attachments had a 7' blade on a ~35(?)hp tractor in one of their videos about plowing. I ordered a 7' blade so it's roughly 6' wide when angled 30コ. It has angle, offset, and tilt so I can get the ditches by our road and driveway without driving in them.

Having the cab will also save much greef, had you not decided upon it.

Yes, it will. Everyone I asked about tractors locally said to get a cab. The wind here is something else, and it can get bitterly cold. I would not want to plow snow in sub-freezing temperatures with 40+mph winds溶ot an uncommon condition in southeastern Wyoming. The dealer said that he sells a lot of tractors with open stations that get traded in the next year for one with a cab.

RE the attachment package in your first post, when you start buying attachments for your 4046 you'll want wider than 5 feet. 6 feet will adequately cover the tires and the tractor has plenty of power to run them.

I saw something about getting a mower wider than the tractor's footprint, so I made sure to get a 6' rotary cutter. I'm also planning to get a Woods land plane, but haven't decided on the 6' or 7'. The price difference isn't huge, so I'm leaning towards the 7' (GSM84P, I think).

Thanks!
Chris

Chris;

Your tractor will pull the Woods GSM84P just fine. Just added Fit-Rite hydraulic top and side links which makes a significant difference in operating the grader. Picture taken before Fit-Rit Kit arrived.

What dealer did you go to? I'm getting quoted $28,500 ls xr4046hc. Which is the cab, hydrostatic, loaded turf tires, loader and then $500 more for mid pto.

It was $1200 to add a cab. I do alot of work in the woods, so a cab was a no go.
