Purchasing new LS XR4040HC or XR4046HC: room to negotiate on price?

The rear grader has a much quicker learning curve than a box blade IMHO. Now that I have installed hydraulic top and side links, the rear grader will be even more versatile. Had a 60" Bush Hog box blade, that I sold with Kubota B-2710, that I never really got the hang of. Wasn't the BB, it was me. Added a Fit-Rite hydraulic top link, which made it better, but think the BB and tractor were both too light to do meaningful dirt work.

I still see a 72" box blade in my future but, it will be heavier than the BB I had.

Think my next purchase will be a 60" or 66" grapple. Already have a 84" HD grapple on our New Holland TL100-A but, need a lighter, narrower grapple to get into places that the NH cannot get to. Already have the WR Long 3rd function installed and plumbed to the FEL so, just need to find the right grapple. The new EA 66" single lid with 39" opening is high on my list right now.

Good luck with your implement purchases. You will find plenty of us, on TBN, that will help you spend your money. :)

I drove past two other closer LS Dealers to Buy from RCO Tractors in Austin. Exactly 100 miles each way. Price is important but, IMHO, dealer service and reputation has a big value as well. I am very pleased with the deal I made with RCO. They like most dealers offer package deal on tractor and a few implements but the. Offered implements are toward the low end which may be all most hobby landowners might need. Not judging here.

I chose to add higher end implements to go with my LS XR4046HC with included FEL (standard). Added a Woods GSM84P rear grader w/ scarifiers and a Woods BB72X rotary cutter.

Also added the Delta Hook QA to the 3-point hitch. Makes implement change quick and easy. The only time you have to get off tractor is to hookup or unhook PTO shaft.

Installed a Piranha Tooth Blade on the bucket also.

This....I purchased from RCO and couldn't be more satisfied with my transaction. I felt that the price that I paid was fair for what I was getting and can honestly say that I feel like part of the Ryan family now....I went by today to get my 50hr supplies and ended up just sitting and talking with John and Alex for quite a while. I firmly believe that you get what you pay for and some of what you pay for with these machines is the service after the sale. If the option was to spend a little more money with a dealer that will be there for me when I need them, so be it.

DISCLAIMER- Other than online shopping some other dealer's websites, I didn't go to other LS dealers and try to beat anybody's price, so I honestly couldn't tell you how much more or less RCO was than the next guy...its entirely possible that I got the best deal around!

I ended up at $32k for my XU5065PS so I do think dealer is pretty much on high side for starters. I had a trade in that I received a very good price on so I did not haggle the price but I would have if it had not been better deal than what I had thought it was going to be.
To me the dealerships responsible for representing the factory warranty regardless of if the purchase was made at their business. If you feel like they would not honor their contractual responsibility to LS I would have a hard time purchasing from them because what else are they going to ignore? My dealer in Ellettsville is only 60 miles away but he has treated me good enough on purchases and service work that I would drive a heck of a lot farther and past one that I felt was not working for me. I also feel like if they start out at a fair price I won't even bother beating them down on price to much.
Implements should be purchased after the tractor deal and you need to know what the fair cost would be before working on your deal otherwise you could pay more than you should.
Good luck on your deal I am very happy with my LS I am sure you will be as well.

We decided on an XR4046HC last night. When I mentioned the prices seen on the forum ($27.5-29k), the dealer was shocked. He actually pays nearly $29k just to get the tractor sitting on his lot in Fort Collins, CO. We worked out something that gives him a reasonable profit, but not quite as good as what others have reported. I wonder if the Tier 4 emissions updates had something to do with that? Or perhaps the region of the country?

Anyway, we should have it in 2-3 weeks.

Thanks for your advice!

Chris, I'm also shopping for an XR4046HC and Gary at that dealership so far has the best price of the dealers I'm talking to.

Chris, I'm also shopping for an XR4046HC and Gary at that dealership so far has the best price of the dealers I'm talking to.

Was that in comparison to other LS dealers closer to you or to other tractor brands? Legacy Tractor was the only LS dealer I visited. They also sell TYM and Kioti, but LS seems to be the favored brand this month. I also looked at John Deere, Kubota, and Massey Ferguson, but they didn't come close to the value of the LS.

I guess there's quite a bit of price variation in different parts of the country. Almost everything I found used was in Texas, Oklahoma, or east of the Mississippi. They all seemed very far to go without being sure that the tractor in question was in good working condition and a good fit for our family. I got my competitive LS pricing data from TBN but, as I recall, the lower LS prices I found were reported from Michigan and Texas. Perhaps a higher volume of tractors is sold in those areas and dealers can afford to operate on thinner margins.

If you plan to drive all the way up the Fort Collins to bring it home, be aware that there's snow in the forecast almost every day through Tuesday 3/3. Wednesday looks good, though.

I'm sorry I was not able to see this till now. I would have recommended the dealer in Penrose, CO. Myself and another on the forums (BSHfieldmaster) have bought from them leaving as satisfied customers. I paid delivered, loaded rim guard and a $3k hydro posthole $31k.
Even swapped tractors for him when he unsure of the size.

Congratulation on your tractor purchase. Solid machine from a reputable manufacturer. If you decide on buying a back blade, I think that you will be way more happier down the road if you go with a seven footer, instead of a six footer.:) Your tractor will handle it, no problem.
Having the cab will also save much greef, had you not decided upon it.
Get those pictures coming when you get it home!:D
Happy Tractoring:tractor:

Congrats on your new tractor. I've been very happy with mine. A couple of things I'll add.

1. RE the attachment package in your first post, when you start buying attachments for your 4046 you'll want wider than 5 feet. 6 feet will adequately cover the tires and the tractor has plenty of power to run them.

2. I looked at the Woods brush hog also and almost went that way. I ended up buying a Land Pride because the metal in the deck was a little heavier. 10 gauge vs. 11 gauge if I remember correctly. My local dealer carries both at about the same price. Just something to think about. The only downfall to the LP is it doesn't come in blue. :)
