Currently I work for the local gas and electric company dispatching generation and buying and selling wholesale electricity. Just received my 20 year award with the same company. It is rotating 12 hour shift work so on the side I run a home improvement business doing like EddieWalker on a much smaller scale. Prior to this I've been an industrial engineer at a textile manufacturer, aircraft mechanic, and grew up in a farming environment in central illinois.

I'm sorry to put myself down and all the others, but being the master and commander of a mega yacht is the coolest job so far! Probably a lot more headaches than I imagine though.

Redi-Mix Concrete Truck Driver, 12 yrs

Redi-Mix Concrete Batchman/Dispatcher, 5 yrs & counting

Is it true you guys have a pre-made list of lies to tell about why the concrete is late? I don't mean that in a nasty way.

In my early days I would tutor Einstein on physics. Later, I taught Henry Ford about mass production. After that, it was teaching Oppenheimer a thing or two about splitting atoms. As I grew older, my interests turned to music and gave some voice lessons to Elvis Presley. I was a photographer for awhile and discovered Marilyn Monroe. I mentioned to Steven Hawking about the possibility of black holes but then he stole my idea. A few years ago I came up with a social networking plan and I called it Face Pamphlet but it never took off. Now I'm retired and working on something called SkyNet.

Dennis Did you work under the code name of Clifford P. XXXXX The company I was working for needed person experienced in solid state electronics and Received this application where if there was a piece of test equipment he was qualified to use. Co paid his way to come to Arizona and passed a interview so came to work. Then mentioned he was driving and stopped at service sta. for fuel and attendant mentioned the battery acid was causing rust on fender of his Mustang car. so he sold it for bus ticket to Ariz.
First day we had to go to a Mountain top in N.Mex. to check on Diesel generator alarm. Low fuel So asked him to drive the Jeep Pickup He Put the transmission in 1st. or Grannie gear and floor boarded the foot feed and popped the clutch causing the tires to squall then yanked to 2nd. the same method. this went on until got to high way and failed to stop at the sign pulled out in front of car nearly hitting the vehicle. Seemed to settle down and drove o'k for close to 50 miles drove off road to trail to Mountain top and now mountain on one side and 50 to 300 foot drop on other with wash out He drove like it was timed trial for race car. I lived a year older getting to top of Mt.
Now at Microwave site parked and everything was amazing or stupendous. and never had seen anyone plug a metal fuel tank shot by deer hunter testing his rifle. with a cork kept for the purpose.
We opened the door to the flywheel type of Witty generator Discussed with him the method of starting and showed him how . then shut off and gave him the crank. Open compression valve spin the crank then hang it in wall and then close the compression valve or crank will hit you on the jaw. It hit on jaw almost knocked him out.
I drove back to Ariz. told the Forman need to keep looking for employee.
Do you remember this ? ken

You know, I've always though bad news is better than great lies. If you have 10 men standing around, I would rather someone tell me flat out the mud will be 2 hours late, then promise it will be there then say it broke down.

Well, I have worked commercial towing vessels and also commercial passenger vessels, and I don't think anyone could pay me enough to get me to work a private yacht. Many many years ago I worked in a country club and the experience of dealing with "rich people" was not enjoyable to me.

YOU GOT THAT 100% RIGHT. I tend to get nothing but problems dealing with rich clients. the poorer ones that are happy to be able to get the job done at a reasonable cost are nearly always the better client in the long run. It tends to be the richer they are...the harder it is to get paid.

i remember one particular vulgar client that did nothing but complain that i was trying to rip him off and that he wasn't made of money. mind you this was a $4,000,000 lake vacation home. He even went so far as to install coffee cup heater units that pre-heated coffee cups so they would be warm BEFORE the coffee was poured. i mean really, I THINK THEY JUST LOOK FOR REASONS TO SPEND MONEY. i cant recall a time when hot coffee didn't instantly heat a coffee cup......

Early on, I went on the job site with my dad building homes, mowed lawns, caddied, washed dishes, pumped gas. I spent the better part of the summer when I was 15 working with an electrician but had to give that up when I lost my ride. Always lamented that one.

Anyway, got into excavating construction. Back then, the dozers were open station and dump trucks had at least some heat. No brainer there. That led to moving equipment which led to dump trailers which led to a lot of trucking. Throw in a couple of years for Uncle Sam. Went back to school at 30 for electronics. Industry was in a slump when I graduated so I helped a friend put up windmills for awhile until the tax credits ending killed his business in the early eighties. Worked in process control in semi-conductor manufacturing for 20 years until most of that work went to Taiwon. No work in process control or QA that paid enough so I took a CDL course for free (I had given up my commercial license when the CDL came around). Got on running doubles but did not like the company so I went to work doing wiring with a friend who ran an HVAC company. He cut back so I picked up a job hauling pole barns then hauled tires. Meanwhile, wife and I got tired of working 24/7 boarding horses so we sold and moved to KY. Did not like the offerings for driving so I picked up a QA job in areospace. As I picked up more FAA qualifications, the work load increased but the pay did not so I took SS at 62. Picked up driving a school bus for the relatively cheap medical costs. Coming up on 65 and medicare, I figure on leaving the bus gig. Along with that, I have been detailing our way too big 5000 square foot house (another story) to get it on the market to downsize to something around 1200-1500 sq feet. Also doing some flea marketing to get rid of "stuff".

I'm a project manager, engineer, programmer and head lettuce washer for all things involving instructional technologies at the University of Pennsylvania. 17 years now in the low voltage industry. Love what I do, hate commuting to the city to do it.

A&P Mechanic for Southwest Airlines for 23 years. I have been an A&P for 37 years. I used to rebuild wrecked and wore out helicopters, which I loved to do. Now, hardest part of my job is commuting across Houston.

I did 6 years in the Air Force flying refueling tankers. I'm now on my 18th year flying for an overnight package delivery company. It is fun and rewarding, but crossing multiple time zones and alternating between day/night schedules is starting to take its toll on me. Hopefully I can hang in there for another 6 years and then I can do some real tractoring!
Oh...........your in the Order of the Sleepless Knights. I used to turn wrenches on freighters for 2 years, including US Postal planes at IAH.
