Anyone know the correct spec's for shimming the power steering valves on the open center steering on a JD 830 utility tractors?

If it is the same as early 2030s; you assemble, leaving out some shims, then measure between the snap ring and the special washer with feeler gauges. You want 0.001-0.003" PRELOAD. So add 0.001 - 0.003" to your measurement. Also use a new snap ring. Later 2030s had a spring, so no shimming required. Hope that helps.

Thanks for info. The power steering parts although similar have different part numbers because the 830 power steering is open center instead of closed center similar to 2030
