Thoughts on mounting a 2500b winch on BX?

Please more comments. I'm only looking at this this for occasional use at best. Getting out of 'stuck' or pulling the odd log or something. Not for any real sustained productive use.
If that's all your going to use it for consider:
The 15 second rule stated is for max load (2,500 lbs), you basically can run it till it gets warm/hot.
How much "pull" do you need to get your vehicle out of "stuck"? And for how long?
What is "stuck"? Buried in mud?
How big a log and how far?

I bought one of the HF $60 specials primarily for pulling "stuff on wheels" up onto my trailer. Only used it for limited testing, worked fine.

But if you want to debate "duty cycles" Warn sells the Vantage 2000 for about $200 and has a "duty cycle" of a whopping 15 sec on for 10 MINUTES off.

I figured for $60 and very occasional use I'd have one of the HF winches in my toolbag.
Here's a couple of videos I found.
and actually pulling a truck and trailer:

Some good points have been brought up, if you want to just pull rolling loads like that garden tractor or even the truck and trailer, obviously this small winch will do that. If you are going to try to get a small tractor like a BX unstuck you may only need to run it 10 or 15 seconds to get it up out of the hole.. If that is what you have in mind, then it may do that too, as long as it isn't loaded too heavily or run too long.

What about a hydraulic winch???

I bought a 3000# winch for pulling 12' oak logs up a frailer ramp to the bed of a trailer all day long a few years ago. Some logs were 8-14" diameter. I mounted it on a riser by the hitch and hooked it up to a small stand alone car battery. I pulled maybe 20 logs up the ramp to the top of the pile and the battery charged pretty well. I never had to jumper to another battery. They are small but useful. I thought that might help your decision.

My thoughts are go for it. My BX is set up with a 4500 lb ATV winch, and I'm not worried about any damage to the electrical system. If you use proper winching techniques, you will have no more issue than any ATV or UTV owner does. As a matter of fact, most ATVs have a stator, or a small 25-amp alternator, while the newer BXs have a 40-amp alternator. Read some articles on winching, and use it conservatively with the engine running. My winch is only used for recovery purposes, like getting myself out of mud. My tractor was down for 2 days after it slipped into a muddy area of my property. It took 1/2 tank of fuel and a lot of tree branches under the wheels to get it out. After that, I bought the winch.

Another consideration for heavier use is to add a deep-cycle battery between the winch and battery, like some trailer owners do for their winches.

Running a winch for long periods of time is going to deplete any battery and/or destroy the alternator. For recovery, you should be able to run it for a few seconds at a time, while using low gear and your loader bucket to assist it out.

For recovery, get a winch that will pull 1.5x your weight, so you can get it up hills or out of ditches without running it to full cycle. The reason I bought a Superwinch Terra 45 was to make sure I had enough to move my ~2000 lb tractor (with operator on board), and not draw ridiculous amounts of amperage to do it. .

I think you have hit upon the key, here. It should not take but a few seconds to get you out of the hole with the proper sized winch.

I have the same winch but with a wired remote on my trailer. I use it to pull cars onto the trailer. It works great. If I need to pull something heavier or not a rolling load, I use a snatch block. As said a truck has a larger alternator. But it still does not take but a minute or two to get the car on the trailer. No burnt wires either.

I have a 2000lb ATV winch on my B7500 and have not had any problems with it. I would recommend a bracket or protective plate around it if it is mounted on the front. I have ran into a few things and damaged mine not thinking it was up there.
