New 5055E PTO lever Hard - Impossible to engage

Hello,

I have a brand new tractor, and will probably be talking to the dealer about this. But
I thought I might get thoughts from here as well see If I'm missing something.

Here is the deal:
New 5055E Cab Regular gear 9 x 3 tractor running and in Park Clutch depressed
Try to move PTO lever forward to engage PTO it makes contact and begins spinning the mower blade
(Clutch still depressed) and lever will only move an inch or so as soon as I let go
it disengages I cant push harder on the lever or it will bend. Tried the same thing with Tranny in gear
same deal.

Thoughts - Advice ?

Your profile says you have a cab. If that's true, your pto should engage by pulling-up a yellow knob to the right of your seat.

There is also a T-shaped handle that changes between 540 and 540e.

I'm not aware of a lever to control PTO in the 2014 cab tractors.

ePTO only available on power reverser. Have you tried with it in neutral? Maybe won't go in when tractor is in park? His has a lever to the left of the seat

My mistake; I thought the 9x3 was the power reverser.

My manual says that with the shuttle shift you have to rev the RPMs to 2400 before engaging the PTO.

I would call the dealer something is not setup right. I have 9X3 on 5210, while not a 5055E I can engage the PTO at any speed. I just make sure the attachment will not pull the engine down. While you can slowly engage it, why would one want to have the engine running at full speed, if you push it to fast it could be hard on the attachment.

Before disengaging the PTO, I slow the tractor down, let is spin at lower RPM for a minute or so before disengaging. Maybe all wrong, but that is my 2 cents.

If you do contact dealer, I would be interested in knowing what is shared with you.

I would expect that Tx Jim is on the right track.
I suspect that your PTO works like my 2011 open machine. The PTO is independent, and the lever you are moving operates the PTO clutch pack. It doesn't care if you are in gear, neutral, or park. The foot clutch has no effect on the PTO. If the engine is running, and you move the lever, the PTO should run. Where it's a new machine I would definitely have the dealer check it out. It should remain engaged, and travel should be a lot more than one inch.

My thoughts are it is out of adjustment. Adjusted one once on a 5105 and got it too tight to start with. Loosened it up and all was well. Being new....dealer needs to correct. Good way to create paper trail of the issue too.

I agree, it is probably adjusted too tight or something is wrong with the linkage. The adjustment is very easy to do, but I would have your dealer come check it and you can watch him adjust it. Then in the future as the clutch wears, you will know where to adjust it. THere is a clevis on the end of the engagement rod that can be shortened or lengthened. One or two turns makes a big difference in how tight the lever operates.
