My farmall super a distributor shift will not turn as engine is rotated. Distributor gear is in good condition. Removed housing distributor fits into and no issue, all gears move freely. Could there be a problem inside the front engine cover (I think this would have the timing gears inside). The service manual is vague in this area. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it may be the distributor drive shaft. This would be part #9, in this exploded view of the distributor drive system. Object moved

Well, the link did not carry through completely. So, click on electrical system in the menu. Then click on the second item that appears in the next menu, (094). On the next page, the distributor drive will appear in an exploded view. Look for # 9.

You'll need to pull the governor assy. off to check and see if that is the problem.

By the way, don't panic on the price, if that is the problem. Here is the part number 353934R11, or you can copy and paste the number to a search engine. I have the best results with Google when searching for parts.

A quick check on Google shows more than several for between $25 & $30.

I'm thinking part#9 connects to the governor. I think something is broke inside. Know of any good picture diagrams of the governor internals. Thanks for the info.

The tangs on the drive shaft engage in the slots in the back of the pinion gear (#28). The drive shaft, and the pin that holds the dist. gear on the dist shaft, are the two weakest links in that drive.

WE have found issues with the drives from time to time that we could not explain for the load on it. Then again most are over 50 years old with materials that go back over 60 years.
