Not a hoax but not much return. HS

What other single endeavor brought more...in the way of things that Americans take advantage of every day...?

It's my understanding that things like computer technology etc came from the space program (mainly Apollo)...also battery technology that has enabled the use of an array of cordless tools etc...it was the same battery technology that greatly contributed to mobile (cell) phones...

I could be misguided about the origin of technologies but it seems to me that computers, cordless tools and cell phones are a few great advancements in technology...

And were did computers come from?... Bletchly Park... WWII.. Alan Turning... The ultra project. breaking **** codes.. That and the big one at MIT used to compute shell trajectories during WWII.. oh sure you could call Napiers Bones a computer, I suppose. but the big advancemnts in computing hardware and concepts as we know it came from World War II..

Look, I am not a war monger, and World War II destroyed multi-millions of lives, but I also have brains enough to see all of the advancements made to raw science and technology because of war. People invent things in a real big hurry when they think their country might be invaded any day, and they and their loved ones killed. Those that can't invent things, worked their azzes off building things.

When life is easy and you can get by by milking the goats and picking the berries and making love to your woman by the campfire, that is what people will do. And the will do just that for centuries and not invent anything more complex than a better pot to catch the goat milk in. But when the bad guys come and threaten to destroy everything you hold dear, is when you get off of your azz and start thinking about better ways to kill him. That is when you start inventing things like weapons, communications, encryption/decryption, microwave techniques (hey the Brits brought the Cavity Magnetron to MIT in a cigar box and handed it to us) And just where in the He double hockey sticks would you be without a Cavity Magnetron? Well for one thing you would have a really hard time heating up anything in your microwave oven without one.

Granted, but it was the space program that brought about the advancement of the microprocessor and the development of the personal computer...

Cell phones...the basic technology existed long before there were batteries capable of allowing the tech. to be used in compact devices...it was the advancement of battery technology and the reduction in size of microprocessors and other components that were brought about the Apollo and shuttle programs...

A lot of technology developed by DOD initiative takes decades for practical applications/devices to reach the public sector market...Geo-satellite navigation is a good example...which brings up a question of why did the gov. stop working on land based navigation advancement and defund the LORAN network??

You can't run a zapped out satellite on a stand-by generator...!

I know that at least some Texicans...as well as Okies...don't have much of a problem accepting evolution along with their faith. It's more difficult, however, if you accept only a literal interpretation of the bible.

Yep.....and believe in Santa and the Easter bunny.

Oh contraire. Evolution is far more difficult to support than Creation. Evolution depends upon the acceptance of "Everything from Nothing." There are more gaps in that ludicrous theory than an old picket fence.
