Must remove the hitch?

One more observation. As I mentioned Perviously, angled parking spaces are the norm here, only older non re striped lots still have any straight pulls left and those are disappearing fast.WITH THE ANGLED PULLS, IF YOU PULL IN GOING THE CORRECT DIRECTION WITH TRAFFIC, (darn caps lock). Then when walking out of the store, the part of the vehicle sticking out the most is the drivers rear corner. You would have to pass that then walk inward to hit the hitch. Walking so as to clear the rear corner of the vehicle takes you plenty far from the hitch. Walking in from the lot, you get the same thing, drivers rear corner sticks out though is the far side of the vehicle as you approach, thus if you do walk into the hitch, you would have walked into the bumper and rear of the vehicle anyway had the hitch not been there.

Watch where you walk, you have to try to walk into one!

I've read every post and have heard nothing compelling beyond "I don't have to, and it's not illegal" of which I agree.

It's still LAZY, Inability or unwillingness to spend 30 seconds to remove a drawbar---LAZY.:D

No other way to frame it sadly....I find the justifications hilarious though---Keep it up I don't care, I'm in it for the amusement now.:D:D

Yes add me to the LAZY list. Not only do I tow multiple trailers, but weekly I also haul my trash can to and from the roadside because my drive is about two tenth of a mile long. I guess I should remove the remove the hitch when I take it down in the morning and reinstall later in the day when I retrieve it but I am just too LAZY. Darn I'm really LAZY.... I should just push the can up and down my driveway every week.

We could excuse it if you had a Ram truck but not with a lousy F-150 EB.......... :D

.Do whatever you want on your own property..The issue is whether to leave the DB in in public. You can slam your shins for 10 years, I don't care if the truck is on your lot...:D

I find it funny that those that leave it in are called lazy, but those that can't seem to maneuver 6 inches away are not called clumsy or unaware!

in fact it's our fault due to our laziness that they hit the hitch.

should i remove my gooseneck hitch every time i'm done with it? i don't want to be lazy. or is it since it is in the bed of my truck and not a threat to your shins that it's okay to leave in.

tim do you make your bed after you get out? do you tie your shoes after you take them off?

i take offensive that you call me lazy. i don't think of myself as lazy. though removing my hitch each and every time it's not in use i do think of as unimportant, but it's unimportant to me. if it's important to you that's great, i won't call you stupid or tell you you're wasting your time/energy

As I have stated more times than I can count ..If it's on your property..I could care less. It's the people who are too lazy to remove the rotted drawbars that are never used..These goofs are among the rest of us...This is hysterical

I am glad you can care less. Now if you couldn't that would be a different story. Looks like you might have "goofed" and you are among us. . Lol

The hitch I use 90% of the time is a solid shank tri-ball setup. If I know I'll be using it at least two times in a week, I will leave it in. If I'm not using it, I store it in the shed.
I never store the 15+ pound hitch inside the vehicle, because I know the damage it could do when flying around inside the cabin during an accident.

Here is my hitch, can I leave it in?
I hope some lazy walker does not brake his knee on it.LOLOLOLO

Yeah but the police are handling business on their phone:rolleyes: I had a woman cop almost hit me at a gas station one day, she was on her phone. She waved at me and went on her way. They also don't have to stop at stop signs.

I had a car almost T bone me at a stop sign because it pulled about three feet beyond the white line before stoping. The car was on my left while I was turning left. As I flipped her the bird I realized that she was in a police car and had her phone in both hands.

I talked to someone that is in-the-know who claimed the only reason she still even had a job was that the department needed a female officer "on the road" during each shift.

I didn't think it was funny, I was driving my RTV at the time! It's hard to tell how far I would have been flung out of it had she hit me while updating her Facebook.

Oh, and if anyone was wondering, I had the hitch in!

Came home and looked online but could not find a specific MV statute about unused hitches but there is a section under MV inspections and protruding devices like hitches. So its likely not the police who will fine you, but DOT Compliance. I cant see it applying to consumer vehicles unless you did something really stupid and DOT really wanted to have a talk to you, but commercial guys could very well be hit by this.

I had someone talk to me about that law while I was getting some work done to my car after an accident, probably 25 years ago. The purpose of the law is to ensure people do not continue to drive around in a vehicle after an accident with a fender half torn off and jagged edged, or a bumper bent out on one side and pointing frontwards/backwards, etc. While I can imagine that it could be cited by a police or DOT officer about a drawbar being left in, I have never heard of that happening. I would think that Scooby has it right that it would be a very rare instance for it to be enforced on anyone who was not using some sort of exceedingly large or long drawbar.

Your RTV is licensed for the road? What do you do, use it for shuttling around the town running errands, etc? Not judging, just have never heard of anyone doing that. Did you have to do anything to it to get it licensed for the road?

No I don't drive it to town, only between farm fields, usually within 1.5 miles from home.

As far as being legal goes, it has a SMV triangle, is used for AG purposes (mostly :) ) and goes slow, like a tractor. I see no difference.
