Steering Pump Fluid

Can someone tell me what hydraulic fluid goes in the power steering pump on a 1977 Massey Ferguson 255 tractor? I have had no luck trying to google search.

All the Massey information I could find called for Massey-Ferguson Permatran III for the power steering pump. I called all over town, every place, I could think of, that was open on Saturday. No one had a listing in their books. I finally called Tractor Supply Company [TSC]. The feller said; "I don't have a listing, but let me go look on the bucket." He did and sure nuff Permatran III was listed on their brand of hydraulic fluid. The brand is "Traveler Premium Tractor Fluid" They sell it in 2 gal and 5 gal containers. I bought a 2 gal container for $19.47.

Thanks, again y'all fer helpin me out with this little prolem. The nearest Massey dealer to here is near 100.00 miles, and they are closed on Saturdy.

Yep, that's what I use in my MF 241 power steering pump (also calls for Permatran III)....no problems with it so far (other than the steering cylinder seals are leaking now that it's cold!).

Well, GManBart, I do not know if my pump had factory or aftermarket fluid in it, but the steering seals leaking is why I finally needed fluid.
