The fact is over 70% of potential buyers live where diesel is $1.00 more per gallon. That's going to hurt sales.

The price spread has deepened lately. Here is what it is at the closest station to me right now. Over $1.00 spread. 40% higher than gasoline today.




A gasser only has to get 20 mpg on the highway to compete with the ram ecodiesel with this price spread. I'd take the hemi if a Dodge fan.

The Dodge Eco diesel would be a good truck for the wife. She gets to fuel up less often and doesn't care what it costs. She doesn't need to tow a trailer, the bed fits the groceries she gets. A nice tonneau cover on the bed. Maybe some of those tall shinny wheels too.

Aka grocery getter. May I suggest a prius for those requirements which has a greater payload capacity than some ecodiesels to haul the heavy groceries and maybe a friend.

Actually at the moment you can't order a ram diesel because they ran out of power trains.

Well considering the ecobuosts turbo problems, at least the ecodiesel will get there and back in the rain or sleet and still be able to tow the brother inlaws rusty Ford back from the hardware store.

Well we have all seen how poor the towing results are for the ecodiesel so I hope you have a lot of spare time if you plan to tow anything. The two trucks are not in the same class for towing and hauling ability which cannot be disputed from real word specs and tests. Even the 2.7 liter ecoboost gasser out performs the larger 3.0 liter ecodiesel in towing. My truck has never required any repairs let alone a tow. Do you own an ecodiesel?

Whoops, I forgot who I was responding to......you are the one who thought the ecoboost was a 4 banger earlier. Obviously not well informed on the F150 to be commenting on this thread.

Nope ......I am just open minded enough to realize that a variety of power plants is a good thing not a bad thing and Ram did not put out a pickup truck to tow a building........they have their Hemi's for that........they were providing a new option that no one else had...........kudos to them

I'm a Ford owner and it doesn't bother me. I would buy a Ram 1500 in a heartbeat if it met my requirements of being able to tow my camper and boat with my family riding along. I liked the interiors and ride quality and probably could have put up with the dismal performance from the low HP ecodiesel. Less than 1000 lb payload sticker killed the dream.

It's funny watching some folks who are obviously biased do everything they can to discredit Dodge. Tom already claimed that both testes were rigged and that he didn't think the 1,000 pounds shown on 1 test was actually 1,000 pounds. Other said it wasn't on a grade, which was later proven to be incorrect. Others claim the axles will snap and truck will collapse if loaded with more than 1,000 pounds. All because they are threatened by the eco diesel.



I'm glad to see some 1/2 to diesel trucks available. Would really like to see a smaller ranger/canyon pickup setup with a little 4 banger diesel that would get over 30 mpg. I was all ready to buy a Mahindra a few years back but the American automakers decided they would block Mahindra from entering the market.
