Just saw a truck accident on rt 20. Older dodge ram pulling a dump trailer and the hitch snapped off the truck. Trailer smashed into the back of the truck and pushed it across the road. Didn't see it happen but saw the end result and the front of the truck is smashed so it had to have hit an oncoming car that was already removed. The flatbed was just lining up to the truck when I went by.

That's not a trailer, rather a large Dollie like tow truck drivers use.

Again, I wish it were in my stable.

Rusting hitches are a issue in my area. I have replaced 3 on customers stuff that failed.

I saw my first, last week sitting at a signal. The hitch on a pick'm up truck was broken in two still hanging from the frame. No rust or evidence of prior abuse. Just snapped in half. Never seen that before. Makes me wonder what they were pulling.

Same here, a friend of mine came to get a load of rock on his trailer. I loaded it up and when he pulled away from the excavator his hitch was just about dragging. It had just about come completely off.
