One of my friends has a real fearless streak... maybe he got it as a WWII Fighter Pilot in the Pacific?

Anyway, he had a dead end with an area people would use to turn around that was an old dumping area for the previous owners... many times trespasser would ignore signs and at the end of the road get a flat trying to turn around... he said there were still first time trespasser... got rid of repeat offenders.

He was not always this way... just got fed up with trash and people smoking in a high fire danger area...

This old yankee backed a honey wagon full of heifer dust in to where they parked and engaged the PTO. When it was empty, I shut it down and left. No more visitors as the perfume was too much for them and after the corn was cut, I loaded the stuff back into the honey wagon and spread it on the field.

I let an older gentleman run his coon dog on my place and last Sunday he calls me up and tells me he has stumbled on to two different vehicles back at the end of the field in the last week. You have to come up our driveway to the top of the hill and there it y's off, left towards the house and right past the barn and towards the fields. Problem is, we have had a very wet year and the corn is 8' tall and can barely even see the barn from the house. Once they make the turn you can't tell anyone is back there. The barn is about 150 yards away. So here's the scoop,,, do any of you know of a security system that works off of a remote that I could set up down the hill on the driveway that would set off an alarm in the house when someone is coming up the drive? The signal would have to travel about 200-250 yards to reach the house. I heard someone makes one that works off of magnetism so the deer don't trip it. Any suggestions are more than welcomed.
P.S. I also have a 1" x 12" x 12" plate ready to have spikes welded to it. Last resort though. Thanks again. RRM

I think I would just ask the older gentleman to give me some vehicle plate info next time he sees someone and ask local law to trace so you can talk to the trespassers.

Ownership of large tracts of land is a tricky responsibility depending on location. It is far better to be known as the owner who appreciates those who wander with respect rather than one who posts restrictions.

Other than that, you might want to be where he saw the people on Sunday and find out if it is a regular occurrence. It would be far cheaper than a high cost surveillance system.

Try and call the police with a plate number and ask them to run it to give you the offenders name and phone number. Good luck with THAT! Not happening and in most states it's against the law for police to give out that information to a citizen who just calls on the phone.

There is no "wandering with respect" on my property. You have already ignored the posted signs and are in violation of the law. Do you think that the signs only apply to disrespectful people? By your logic I get a bad name just from posting my property but you list lawbreakers as respectful?

It's better to be known as the guy who doesn't put up with trespassers at all and let the repectful wander on their own property or public land.

It's against the law for friends who work for insurance companies to give you their name and address as well.

My experience has been that the smaller the property is, the more territorial the owner.

A couple of years ago I was talking to a hunter who owned +- 100K acres in common with about 10 others... his proudest accomplishment was tracking down the owner of a small boat which hadn't been used in years so that he could buy it, by a pond which they owned the land.
He, his brother, and friends hunted hard all fall and never connected... yet if you encountered them in the woods you would never know that they were the landowners. They didn't need to enhance their odds by excluding others..n

Many states require ANY inquiry into the "L.E.I.N. Database" (or whatever it may be called in your area) to be tied directly to either a logged 911 call, an incident number or other official report. In the old days, friends with connections to law enforcement could ask their L.E. friends to look up information on request. Because of various privacy laws as well as misuse of information in the past, in many jurisdictions, this is very closely monitored at the states capital by authorities.

Now, if an inquiry into someone's identity is made and it is not part of an official action, it prompts an investigation and could result in termination and prosecution of those making such requests. This is not "what I have heard", this is a fact based upon decades of work directly in law enforcement. A local 911 operator looked up a plate for a friend and it ended her 19 year career.

You could, of course, simply report the trespassers vehicle information directly to the local law enforcement so that they are aware of this problem and can keep an eye in your area when on patrol. Plus having the report on the record could be helpful if the trespassers escalate their behavior and a confrontation occurs.

At work someone had parked/abandoned a vehicle... if the vehicle is reported stolen, the police will order a tow.

It the vehicle is simply abandoned on private property it is up to the property owner to deal with which can be expensive.

I can't tell you how many times I reported an abandoned vehicle, the officer arrives and radios in the plate or vin number and I hear the dispatcher give the officer the owner's information.

The last time, the registered owner was 2 blocks from the Hospital and based on what I heard... I walked over and knocked on the door to let the owner know the vehicle was going to be towed... in almost every case the owner removed the vehicle and no tow was necessary... and most thank me for the courtesy call...
