I just picked up a used DK40 with about 40hrs on it. Is there an adjustment somewhere for the HST range lever. its tricky to get into Med range and sometimes when its in it will say its neutral on the dash. I also cant seem to get it into High range at all even though it shows it is in high on the dash. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I can tell you a little. If you cant get the range lever far enough forward to actually get the transmission in HI, there appears to be a set screw on the lever, where it goes on the shaft. As far as indicator light, I can tell you how it works, but you won't believe it. :)

The range lever has a bar that goes over to a lever that acts as a bellcrank on a 2000 ohm potentiometer. With 5 volt applied on one end of the pot and ground on the other, the varying voltage on the center (wiper) of the pot is fed back to the believe it or not the cruise control module. An integrator in the cruise module then detects the varying voltage and decides which gear the transmission is based upon this voltage, and sends the appropriate signal to the display module to light the proper L N M N H lamp.

But all of that aside, you are saying that you can't get the transmission in HI range, so that is a purely mechanical problem, and I would look at that shaft and the range selector lever, and what looks like a setscrew to me. Again, the indicator lamp has nothing to do with what actual gear of the three the transmission is in, it is just for your viewing pleasure.:) Just like dialtone has nothing to do with dialing numbers on a telephone, it is just to make you happy.

Haha! Great thank you I will take a look tonight hopefully.

Well what I first thought might be a setscrew.. looks more like a roll pin now to me on the diagram.. Uh so no adjustment there. It goes into an internal shaft that operates a shift fork.

It is a roll pin.... any other ideas? Am correct in assuming I should just be able to put this in high from a dead stop and go? I've only had 2 range hydros before but that's how it was.

If it wont go in, try tapping one or the other hydro pedals. It should not take much force, but the gears have to be lined up for it to slide in. Or let the tractor "drift" slightly.

Well I wiggled jiggled pushed and pulled... I need to stop by the dealer tomorrow anyways so I will ask him. Thanks!

I hope it is not something bent on the shift forks. It is just a standard 3 speed manual transmission at this point, as the hydro "guts" are ahead of this portion, but splitting the tractor to get to it is probably much fun.

Not sure if the mechanical parts are similar as on my CK30hst but the linkage rotated a shaft that went into the trans case. Where the shaft goes through the case is an area that can corrode/rust. Mine became very hard to shift after the first Winter's use. Sprayed WD40 first to loosen and then sprayed white lithium grease. I do this every year and it has always shifted reasonably easy now.

It looks like it works that way to me, A shaft goes thru the case with an O ring on it inside and it works a shift fork.

Yes, standing still is the ONLY way to shift from l-m-h. Sometimes you may need to tap the f or r pedal to get the shift lever to engage a particular gear, or let the tractor roll a foot or less in any direction for everything to line up.
Corrosion or a bent part or something jamming the linkage travel, where the linkage contacts the transmission is also a possible reason you can't get high, unless you live in Colorado!?

Well I will look at DK at the dealer and check how its linkage is compared to mine. I am also going to pick his brain a bit about the issue. I will keep you guys posted, thanks for the ideas!

Maybe some of that Colorado "air" is all it needs!

Colorado Rocky Mountain (High, gear)!
Good luck- funky linkage is probably the issue....

Well I made an appointment at the dealer but he was pretty back logged. Today I was using the tractor for the first time in a week or so and the high range is now working? Not sure what changed.

Hey Jeff

I have the same issue on my DK40. What was the resolution?

Thanks,
John

Sorry for never updating. I ended up finding the problem myself once I lost all ranges and got the ok from the dealer to break the paint. It was simple the roll pin that connects the shifter to the rod going into the transmission broke. The roll pin is long and had only broke on one end is my assumption, after continued use it broke at both ends making it so the tractor would not shift at all. I used a hardened nut and bolt to replace the pin(60hrs no issues).
