Front fenders?

This was pretty much my thinking, without having personal experience with them. But they do look smart on Coobie's JD, and apparently help keep that shiny tractor clean.

I guess if I were roading my tractor any distance over wet or muddy roads I'd like to try front fenders. But it seems they could get hung up and be vulnerable to damage when doing FEL work in a big snowbank, or working in the woods over heavy deadfall, or trying to rip out undergrowth in a thicket. Would they be easily removable? With my smaller tractor over the years, I've buried the front tires in snow, brambles, Chinese grape vines, etc. many times. Sometimes stuff even gets wrapped around the hub. Would be interested to hear counterpoints on this, as I'm sure there are some.

Eric, hope I'm not hijacking, but what do you see as the benefits for what you'll be doing in Nevis? Driving back and forth from the lake house to your development maybe? BTW, I'm assuming that whatever you end up with would also fit my NX.

Cars have been known to dissolve in the salt. People started out driving to town but they come home walking.

The benefits are keeping the salt and slush off of the rest of the tractor. I looked at my tractor with the wheels cocked and there is a ton of clearance to fab up "turns with" fenders. There are also a total of six bolts to mount the frame to on the top of the steering knuckle.

Front fenders up here aren't mandatory. There's no law saying you must have them on a tractor. That being said all the heavier machines from back hoes up have them. Our Kubota dealer Installed them on some of the 40 series tractors while the machines were having their PDI's done. The kits added an extra $600. plus to the price of the machine though.

That being said I wouldn't want a machine without them. I travel our roads a lot in the winter and they keep a lot of crap from hitting the glass. I've traveled other tractors without them and it was awful. I like the finished look they give the machine as well. So much so that I added a set to our little BX but to be honest it was only because I liked the look and nothing else. As others stated, the smaller tractors don't travel fast enough to flick anything but that's only my humble opinion.

To me a tractor without front fenders look like they are missing something. Unfinished so to speak. In the winter I add mud flaps to the 5740's front fenders but take them off in the summer when I'm in the mud so they don't get torn off if I get down in a hole.

I understand how the front fenders can keep grass and such off the MMM, I just don't understand the value. Grass on the deck is easily removed with a shot of air compressed to 90psi.

The MMM on the CS2410 just doesn't collect grass on the MMM. I've had other tractors where the MMM would collect it and never let go.

Ah, got it, thanks. Makes sense, given the back and forth. I just didn't think you hardy Minnesotans bothered with salt on the roads.

attacking?? I asked what the pic you posted was supposed to prove? The tractor has no fenders, which is what we are discussing. You posted it so I figured you would be the one to ask.

So you still have no answer to why you posted a pic of a tractor with no fenders in a discussion about fenders for a tractor. Strange.

To tell you the truth I'm here trying to figure that out as well. What am I'm missing with the post

Me as well. Maybe he added fenders to that tractor and just doesn't have a pic with the fenders on. He seems to be avoiding answering the question for some reason though. Oh well..

After thinking about this I remembered that a JCB telehandler I had used to have fenders. It has big tires and goes fast enough to fling stuff up while driving. Might be able to make a set of those work on a tractor.

Ya very odd. Almost to the point of being bizarre. I'm out of possible answers so I give up.

I made a set of plastic fenders one time out of a 55 gallon plastic barrel. Cut sections out of the barrel then cut those sections in half and you have your plastic fenders. You could get creative and use a router to put a nice edge them as well. Just a thought.
