BX25D - Switching between 2WD and 4WD?

With a BX, I use 4WD only when I need it. Tears up the grass in the yard and unnecessarily wears the tires when on the pavement. To get out of 4WD when driving, put a reasonable amount of pressure on the lever and drive in a slight serpentine. That unloads the drive train and at the point the driveline bind is relieved, lets the lever move with little resistance. In most 4WD systems the fronts lead the rears slightly, so something has to slip when driving in a straight line.

My manual suggests turning the steering wheel (while stopped) and simultaneously keeping pressure on the shift lever. Seems to work.

That funny feeling is exactly why the lever was hard to move. There was tension / conflict in the drive train and you trying to move the lever actually can cause even more tension for a moment. Back up a tad and the tension is released, the lever moves easily.

When an explanation comes from knowledge and experience it just makes so much sense letting everything fall into place. This is exactly why I became part of this forum.

Thanks again! :drink:

Lift the front wheels off the ground and it will shift into 2WD easily.

I have found it easy to switch by stopping and reversing at the same time put a slight pressure on the FWD lever and it always easily moves into two wheel drive. Going into 4WD is easy. And can be done on the move in the forward direction.

I think this is preferable to lifting the front wheels off the ground or rolling it on its side...............just sayin.....

Just put your bucket up high in the air on a slope and you can make them tip over easy.. be sure to shift out of 4wd as you start to roll over. Easy Peazy!:D

Adjust your air pressure in the tires!!!!

The best way to cut driveline wear is to change your air pressure in your tires to make the drive speeds equal. When you get it right it you will not have to pick up the front end or turn the wheels unless under loaded variations that change the outer diameter of the tire. You are putting excessive strain on you drive to not have the four wheel drive matched up!

Exactly. Mismatched rotation speed eats tires and causes strain. As the front tires wear it becomes even more imperative to keep front pressures up.
