With a BX, I use 4WD only when I need it. Tears up the grass in the yard and unnecessarily wears the tires when on the pavement. To get out of 4WD when driving, put a reasonable amount of pressure on the lever and drive in a slight serpentine. That unloads the drive train and at the point the driveline bind is relieved, lets the lever move with little resistance. In most 4WD systems the fronts lead the rears slightly, so something has to slip when driving in a straight line.
