I try to answer every message I get on here as soon as possible. I don't get messages very often however. I do use the iphone app 95% if the time and sometimes it can act screwy.

what's more annoying is when someone asks you how you do something, and you respond with a step by step response that takes 30-45 minutes to write, in explicit detail, send it and then you never hear a word from them.

Or maybe they are pulling some triggers while trying to decide whether there are too many questions about converting a pto genset into a natural gas heat sink reverse osmosis solar pumping windmill by using only a 3 phase tombstone. (My favorites are the ones who start off by disqualifying themselves with "Now I don't know anything about this or that but in my opinion ...")

Or they could just be out baling their hay with a brand new 900 hp purple tractor that makes just one bale out of all the hay from 200 acres. Nothing less will do ! As we all should know by now, anybody using less power is an idiot. The fact that some idiots are able to get it done with 20 hp just implies they are also morons and missing some vital male parts.

Now where on my tractor should I mount my Steinway grand piano ?

*thumbs up with a chuckle* darn scooting i do not know! i know many folks here on the forums a far more knowledgeable and experienced, than myself. i may be a fool, but a proud fool that i am i rather discredit myself, and note i am most likely wrong. vs taking note from others that will most likely reply and be correct on a given subject.

I'll admit that may times I use the phrase "I dont know anything about this" (or similar) a few times. But in either case, I still think the advise I give thereafter is worthwhile. I usually do it when I notice someone in need of help but no replies or no useful replies. I am sure I dont help whomever with the problem, but try to give them advise as to what I would do, or where good places are to look.

Now if the OP has had several good replies, then I wont chime in. But If no or few replies, I try to help however I can. And I think it is at least better to admit that I know little about the subject, rather than speak as if I am an expert.

Could be a number of reasons...

When I was traveling it was very hard at times to stay in touch.

I've sent messages to members that have not posted for awhile and sometimes I hear back... months later or never hear back.

A follow up would good because it just might have slipped someone's mind.

We have a pretty good group of members willing to help out and offer advice and I know there are times when time is precious and other times where I can catch up...

Every once in a while my email decides that a message is junk and sends it to the junk file. I never check them before I delete them.

I never check my PM box unless an alert notice pops up. I try to answer any PM as soon as I see the alert message.
I would suggest that if you haven't gotten a reply, fire off another PM to the recipient and see what happens. I know when I was overseas, computer connections were bad and I couldn't get on the net very often.

I think a recipient's desire to respond to a pm might depend on their view of what they think the sender's motive might be for asking secretive questions.
It's situational, in my opinion. I don't think every pm ever sent had the best intentions for the recipient.

here's an idea.. and it may even be possible or credible..

some of us don't get emial notifications. IE.. the board doesn't like our email server.. or our email server doesn't like the board. For instance. I mostly do not get emial notifications. OCCASIONALLY i do.

Now.. i have not played with all the settings int he software.. but it may be possible to turn off the top header notifications that you have pm. if so.. someone may have just accidentally missed that they had PM.

Lastly. could be a board error. On at least 2 occasions i have been sent PM i simply could not open no matter where i accessed them from.. work pc, phone.. etc. IE.. the message was damaged. that could be the case.

Nope...and for those who wonder what member did not return my PM I will never say....but I DO have two in my outbox that Junkman never responded too...and I was really crushed when he failed to reply.
