Tractor
kioti lb 2204
I have a 1988 kioti lb2204 tractor that has black sludge in exhaust pipe that was dripping out the drain hole in the bottom of the exhaust pipe. I do not run the tractor for extended periods of time could this be a problem that it is not burning out of the pipe or could this be a internal engine problem.

Sounds like un-burnt diesel, I would get the motor checked out.

It is likely condensation in the exhaust pipe either moisture in the air condensing or rain that is getting in your exhaust pipe if it is vertical and running down to the bottom. It is mixing with the carbon from the diesel exhaust and forming the sludge. Just run it long enough to burn out the moisture. If the exhaust is vertical, put a rain flap on it will help with the condensation.
It wont hurt anything as long as the drain hole remains open. That is what the drain hole is for.

The engine seems to run fine, but it might be worth getting it checked out by a mechanic. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for your respose Gary, I keep the Tractor outside all the time but always cover the pipe with a can and tarp the tractor. I took the exhaust pipe off and started the tractor nothing comes out of the manifold that I could see so maybe its just that I dont run the tractor long enough to burn out the carbon.

Water is a main product of combustion. If the engine and exhaust system don't get good and hot almost every time the engine is run, water may remain in the exhaust system and form a sludge with soot..

probably slobber

limited short term runs are PRIME causes for slobber.

take it out and work the bajeebers out of it for 3-4 hours at FULL pto load and rpm. bet it clears right up unless it has been let go so long that you have damage from fuel thinned oil and similar problems..

I agree with sound guy. There are bajeebers stuck in it that you have to work out.

I have the same tractor and just started having the same issues and was wondering how you made out?
