Hey, can one tell the year model of the tractor by the serial # on a LS tractor like you can with a auto?

Dealers might have access to something, but I've never seen anybody publish a way to decode the serial number. Tractors don't really have a model year like cars do...they might make the identical model for several years, so they don't need to have a year code in them like the VIN on a car.
The old fords did have a way to tell the year or real close. It was from xxxxx number to xxxxx number was this year and from xxxxx number to xxxxx number was the next year and so on. Look how long they made all those N's hundreds and 01"s they had to have some way of knowing where they belonged ish!
I don't know about the new ones but they probably have something like that at least.
Hey Guesseral, yeah I agree. On my Ford 4600 and 8N I can reference the model # and it gives me engine type, fuel type, transmission type and of course the year production. There has to be some way to referance and determine year prouduction. Are there any dealers out there that can give us some valid information on this matter?

There just isn't any reason to shoot someone down, if they want to ask the question what harm will it cause they may just ask the right person and get an answer. I am sure that the information is out there in the same manor as it used to be. Every tractor, car, truck, or widget for that matter has a serial number and the manufacturers know to some reasonable period of time when it was made. Getting the manufacturer to share that information could prove to be difficult at best or maybe the question just hasn't reached the right place yet.
Why do I think none of the big brands publish this now, maybe because not all of the units made in a year are sold in that year so now they are the next model year since there were no changes being made anyways. Heck I don't know we can all make any assumption we want to it doesn't make them right!
Kioti uses a alphabet code for year made.
Yes you are correct the older tractor serial number information did come out long after there production, and the published information if I am not mistaken was from a private source, can't believe I forgot to include that info. So basically we agree.
Has anybody explained/decoded it publicly?
If enough people got their dealer to tell them what year their machine was, and we pooled the responses, we might be able to do the same thing, or at least start to narrow it down.
Bingo GManBart. I'm looking ahead, say 5 years from now. I want to sell my tractor. I list on the common mediums one advertise farm equipment on. I have a intrested, serious buyer. They would like to know the year of this tractor, and all I can tell them is that I bought it what I thought was new in the year xxxx.
That won't fly in my neck of the woods.

Here is the tag on my 5030
Spring of 2011 I can't say for sure but I think it had at sticker that had a 2010 built date on the cab I'll check when home. When did you buy it?
The serial number for my R4047 was 2106012661.
Wonder if they use the Gregorian calendar method. (or a coded variation of it)
If so, your serial number reads it was made on the 106th day of 2012.
Our company uses it, so customers have no idea how to figure it out. I do not like that approach!
